5 Freedoms You'd Lose in Health Care Reform

Typical. YOu start a thread making snesationalist claims. When someone refutes most of them, you ignore that to focus on the one tiny bit of info that has not bee refuted.

Tell us that you have all of those freedoms now?? Can you?

yes....and so do you....if you don't like the plan you have, go get a different plan.....there's nothing sensationalist about that list, it's simply common sense....

Not when you see the breakdown of the uninsured

mrz072409dAPR_t756.jpg

The 35.8 million in the 1st, 2nd and 4th groups are idiots if they don’t think they need health insurace. Any one of these people could face a catastrophic injury or an undiagnosed case of cancer (or some other catastrophic disease) and become both uninsurable under current industry standards and thus a burden to society by raising the healthcare costs of everyone else. And the 8 million in the 5th group are, for all practical purpose, victims of child neglect/abuse.

I am not saying that any reform plan that the government has a hand in will be worthwhile; the exact opposite is more likely. But if you think no reform is needed, you are an absolute fool.

Under Obamcare you will not be able to buy private ins,

If you cannot afford private insurance now, what will you lose under Obama?

]you will not be able to choose your coverage level, you will have a say in what procedures are covered,

If you cannot personally choose what your group policy will and will not cover already, what will you lose under Obama?

and if you do not want coverage you will be fined (i.e taxed)

What gives you a right to be a burden to society by not having health insurance?

Pg 22 of the HC Bill MANDATES the Govt will audit books of ALL EMPLOYERS that self insure!!

The government can do this already with an IRS or sales tax audit.

Pg 30 Sec 123 of HC bill - THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benes u get

The boards of directors and managers of HMOs and insurance companies already do this- meaning they can deny you any treatment that will cost them money.

Pg 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill - YOUR HEALTHCARE IS RATIONED!!!

It’s not rationed now by the free market, i.e., some people cannot buy healthcare because they cannot afford it?

Pg 42 of HC Bill - The Health Choices Commissioner will choose UR HC Benefits 4 you. U have no choice!

As corporate boards of directors and managers do now.

PG 50 Section 152 in HC bill - HC will be provided 2 ALL non US citizens, illegal or otherwise

Something we already do.

Pg 58HC Bill - Govt will have real-time access 2 individs finances & a National ID Healthcard will b issued!

The IRS essentially already has access to your financial records and accounts in that it can seize your assets for tax evasion without indictment or trial.

Pg 59 HC Bill lines 21-24 Govt will have direct access 2 ur banks accts 4 elect. funds transfer

In Florida if you run a business the state government can already take sales taxes directly from your bank account.

PG 65 Sec 164 is a payoff subsidized plan 4 retirees and their families in Unions & community orgs (ACORN).

Payoff subsidized plan? Explain.

Pg 72 Lines 8-14 Govt is creating an HC Exchange 2 bring priv HC plans under Govt control.

HC Exchange? Explain.

PG 84 Sec 203 HC bill - Govt mandates ALL benefit pkgs 4 priv. HC plans in the Exchange

Essentially what existing insurance companies and HMOs do already so they can deny coverage that will cost their companies money.

PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill - Specs for of Benefit Levels for Plans = The Govt will ration ur Healthcare!

Again, already done by the free market.

PG 91 Lines 4-7 HC Bill - Govt mandates linguistic approp svcs. Example - Translation 4 illegal aliens

Linguistic approp svcs? Explain.

Pg 95 HC Bill Lines 8-18 The Govt will use groups i.e., ACORN & Americorps 2 sign up indiv. for Govt HC plan

I guess you’ve never heard of social workers.

PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill - Specs of Ben Levels 4 Plans. #AARP members - U Health care WILL b rationed

Yet again, already done by the free market.

-PG 102 Lines 12-18 HC Bill - Medicaid Eligible Indiv. will b automat.enrolled in Medicaid. No choice

So? If you are already getting government healthcare, does it matter how you get it?

pg 124 lines 24-25 HC No company can sue GOVT on price fixing. No "judicial review" against Govt Monop

I thought you libertarians were against judicial review; you always seem to complaining about activist judges legislating from the bench.

pg 127 Lines 1-16 HC Bill - Doctors/ #AMA - The Govt will tell YOU what u can make.

Already done with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement caps.

Pg 145 Line 15-17 An Employer MUST auto enroll employees into pub opt plan. NO CHOICE

Similar to the automatic enrollment in Social Security, workers comp, unemployment insurance?

You are complaining about the government taking over the healthcare industry- even though millions of Americans cannot afford healthcare. But yet when I proposed a religious liberty amendment that would empower churches to provide healthcare to people that cannot afford it- thereby minimizing the government’s role in what is essentially a function of charity, I don’t recall that you were anywhere around to offer support.

even the most strident liberals claim only 50 million uninsureds........we have around 300 million here.....what do you mean by "most"......

There is a difference between having health insurance and having adequate health insurance. If you have insurance but are in a position where some corporate director or manager can say your policy doesn't cover X (because covering X would cut into my employer's profits), then you don't have adequate health insurance, and I would venture that most Americans are in this situation. I've lost count of the number of times my mother's insurance has refused to cover medications because the insurance company wanted her doctor to prescribe something cheaper.

What could we gain with health care reform?

The end of the pre existing conditions coverage waiver.

Cheaper insurance.

fewer medical treatment caused personal bankruptcies.

This is simply more proof that liberals hate true freedom and what they really want is "freedom from responsibility".

How many people can afford health insurance if they don't get it through a group plan?

you sound like some 40 year old guy still living in his parent's basement, bitching because nobody can afford to buy a house......if somebody hadn't been giving it to you free so far, you would be buying your own......failure to launch!......

I am a 41 year old with congestive heart failure and must live with my mother because she is disabled with lupus and I am her only caregiver and thus cannot have a job. If you don’t like it, you may go to Hell.

My sympathy to you for taking care of your mother.
However I will still give you hell over politics.

I have personal responsibility.
I have admitted several times on this board to being wrong. Have you?
You don't seem to carry this philosophy over to your political beliefs.

I have admitted error when I have committed it, which has been rare. *shrug*

What's with your fixation on my ban, for revealing truth?
Not yet. My friend's philandering hubby may have struck once more, nixing my little outing. *shrug*

I just thought you'd relish the chance to open up a little about the "revealing truth" stuff? I think of you as a modern day 'Knight Rider' - seeking out injustice wherever you may find it - but without the talking car and the acting skills of the Hoff. Perhaps we could club together and get you a little flashing red light thing to put on the front of your car?

Shame about the water-skiing though.

If it weren't for social issues and national security I would say, more and more, that legitimate liberals and legitimate conservatives, i.e., not the libertarians and socialists you find on the net (or in Congress), share common goals but for different reasons and our only real difference is the methodology we prefer. The nation wouldn’t have the problems it now has if it weren’t for the partisan rancor that permeates politics.

Today in the House, Democratic leaders struck a deal with Democrats on the Energy and Commerce Committee, which has now moved forward with a mark-up of a health care bill this afternoon.

Also today, Senate Finance chairman Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) said the plan was predicted to cost less than $900 billion and lead to reductions in the deficit within 10 years.

I am confident that we're going to get health care reform done this year.
