After Harvard rejects US demands, Trump adds new threat

Trump hates anyone aspiring to goals beyond getting fat and getting money.

The HeirHead Harvard Hierarchy and its Plutelicking boytoys ought to feel lucky they haven't been skewered by pitchforks. MAGA is letting them off easy. This time.

Anyone born with a silver spoon in his mouth has a birth defect, which must be forcibly removed. No special schools, no trust funds, no inheritance. If we have to do it on our own, so must these pompous Preppy predators.

We don't need no stinkin' higher education....
In College, the Student Lives Like a Child. So He Graduates with the Mind and the Character of a Child.

It must be replaced with highly paid professional education. Imitate what baseball does to get the best 18-year-old talent. College-level stupidity would say, "But jocks beat up nerds, so that doesn't make any sense!"

Couldn't care less if it makes him look greedy, why would I care if Trump looks greedy?
He's the President of the United States. Shouldn't we hold our leaders to a higher standard?

I never trusted Bill Clinton when he looked Americans in the face on television and lied about smoking pot. I liked him less when all the stories of his adulterous affairs came out. Worse when the stories of sexual harassment and sexual assault came out. The Democrats covered for him.

"It's private" they said. "Bullshit" I said. Our leaders should be held to a higher standard. If they can't honor their oaths to their own wives, how could they be trusted to honor their oaths of office?

They shouldn't. They are a private college and shouldn't get even $1 of taxpayer money.
It depends upon what the money is being spent upon. IIRC, most is to fund research.

While I agree all programs should be subject to reevaluation, research is a very important area if We, the People, want the US to stay ahead of global competition.

Trump, like his good buddy Elon, is being petty and is using a chainsaw when a scalpel would be better.
IMO, his actions are doing more harm than good.

Federal sponsored research for that year made up 11% of the university’s revenue, compared to the 5% the institution receives from non-federal organizations. Government grants, however, are often multi-year streams of funding—pulling this funding could put some long-term research efforts at risk.

The endowment remains Harvard’s largest source of revenue. Some schools within the university are more reliant on such funds. For instance, 85% of the funding for the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study comes from the endowment, whereas just 20% of the funding for Harvard Business School relies on it.

Harvard’s actions stand out against the response by fellow Ivy League Columbia University, which announced it would be complying with the demands of the Trump Administration as more than $400 million in federal funds to the university remain at risk. The University of Pennsylvania also had some $175 million in federal research funds suspended because of the participation of a transgender athlete on a women’s swimming team in 2022. This February, President Trump issued an Executive Order barring transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports.

The point was that some organizations don't have enough so "Trump", which reminds me a bit of the underwear gnomes in Southpark, and I just want something to link these things. Do you believe that folks that would purchase crap promoted by Trump would just give to these "organizations" that are going wanting?

Clearly you do not or you'd be going somewhere else with this.

I just really don't give a rip, there is nothing morally wrong or "sinful" selling something retail. And I could not care less if someone did. Obama crap was everywhere, instead of worrying about how it made someone look I just didn't buy it, Trump crap is everywhere... you know what is similar? I also don't buy that. Does that mean I just give my money to some unnamed "organization" that is going wanting? Probably not...

I do not see how these things connected. It was a non-sequitur.

Other than his own pocket, what "organizations" is Trump doing this for? The richest man in the USA's car company? Putting money into a supporter's pocket? Are you claiming all of these are charitable donations to churches? To feed the poor?

Obviously you do "give a rip", Damo, otherwise you wouldn't constantly be defending the Orange Jesus.

Wow, you are insane.

Why not? My understanding is that it goes toward pretty vital research.

How do Americans benefit when that research stops?
They have literally tens of billions in their endowment fund, spend some of that, or conversely use a less private university. Especially if you do not want to comply with federal requirements to obtain the funds.

And federal requirements are "just don't be woke?"

I don't think his current battle w/ this university is very defensible. On almost every front, Trump is taking things too far.

I support cutting waste, but not cutting funds for valuable research just cuz.

Indeed. Not qualified, just ideologically right wing.
I don't think market for 18 year old academically over-achieving rightwingers is that large.

I don't think the rightwing has ever been very attracted to teaching and academic research. Although I imagine the Harvard business school has a lot of conservative professors.

The right argues that every university department needs to have exposure to conservative ideas.
