A dramatic scene unfolded when gunfire erupted in a north Stockton neighborhood Thursday evening and two bloody gunshot victims barged into a nearby home looking for help.

Police received reports of the shooting at 6:40 p.m. in the 9200 block of West Lane. Officer Joe Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department, said a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were standing outside a residence when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire on them.

A woman and her boyfriend, both of whom spoke on condition of anonymity because they feared for their safety, were inside their residence on West Lane Frontage Road when they heard gunfire outside.

“I heard gunshots and people screaming in front of my house,” the woman said.

Moments later, she said, two young males came into her house. One had been shot in the groin. The other had gunshot wounds to his chest and hip, and a graze wound to his head, she said. Both were bleeding badly.

“There was blood all over my house,” she said. “They were yelling at me to get them to the hospital. They needed help.”

A stray bullet fired during a road rage incident struck a woman in her 60s as she drove through a quiet East Side neighborhood.

San Antonio police Sgt. J. Vinson said the shooting happened in the 200 block of Kayton Avenue.

Vinson said two drivers on the street were engaged in the road rage incident when one of them threw a bottle of Big Red at the other’s car. That prompted the driver to open fire on the one who threw the soda at him, Vinson said.

One of those bullets whizzed past the car and blasted through the windshield of a silver sedan that happened to be in the area.

One law enforcement officer was killed and three were wounded after a six-hour standoff at a rural Mississippi house ended when authorities stormed the house and the gunman inside opened fire, authorities said.

Also killed was the man suspected of firing on the officers.

The standoff started when authorities responded to a domestic dispute call at the home in rural northeastern Mississippi, authorities said.

But the man, holed up in his home with his wife and 10-year-old daughter, refused to come out, sparking a six-hour standoff with officers outside, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain.

The woman and child were rescued, said Strain. But the man was killed after he allegedly opened fire as tactical teams entered the home.

Killed were James Lee Tartt, 44, who was a Mississippi narcotics agent, and suspected gunman Charles Lee Lambert, who was 45. A high-powered rifle was recovered from the house.

A dozen police officers shot and killed a homicide suspect during a gun battle along Interstate 5 in Washington state, authorities said.

The man, in his 40s, had killed his estranged girlfriend as she worked at a nursing facility in University Place, near Tacoma, said Pierce County Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer. Police soon spotted him and chased his vehicle southbound on I-5 as he shot at them.

The suspect exited the highway and then got back on heading north, at which point the pursuing officers forced his car to spin out near an exit for Tillicum, said Lakewood Police Lt. Chris Lawler.

The man took cover behind his vehicle and engaged police in a shootout, Lawler said. Twelve officers from three agencies — Lakewood and Steilacoom police, as well as the sheriff's department — shot back, killing him.

The dead girlfriend, who was not identified, worked at University Place Care Center, a long-term care facility, which said in a statement that it contacted a private security company to ensure the care center is safe and enlisted counseling services for staff or residents.

"Tragically and without warning, there was a shooting this morning at University Place Care Center that took the life of one of our nurses," the statement said. "This was not a random event but appears to have been an act of domestic violence that occurred during a shift change at the facility.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies say the suspect in a Katy murder is dead after he shot himself in front of a substation where his mother attempted to turn him in to authorities.

Officials say a deputy was walking out of the substation on Clay Road when he noticed a black car with its headlights on in the parking lot. He approached the vehicle and asked the mother and son in the car if they needed any assistance. According to officials, the woman said she was there to turn her son in for a murder he committed in the 2900 block of Katy Briar Lane earlier that morning.

The deputy then asked the 17-year-old if he did commit the murder. He replied, "yes" before deputies say he got out of the car and drew a weapon to his head. The deputy drew his weapon and told the teen to drop the gun. Instead, the teen fired once. He was then transported to the hospital in critical condition where he later died.

The accident happened while the pair was target shooting in a remote area of Box Elder County. There were several targets set up at multiple locations, and the two were shooting in separate areas.

Ward said the father and son were alternating positions, with one shooting while the other acted as the spotter downrange.

A 14-year-old Jones County boy was shot to death in Juliette.

Jonathan Luke Woodard of Will Jackson Road was fatally wounded, Jones County Deputy Coroner Matt Jarratt said said.

The teen suffered from bipolar disorder and attention deficit hyperactive disorder, said Jones County sheriff's Maj. Earl Humphries.

The boy was carrying a knife while allegedly prowling in a yard.

Investigators later found a toy gun and a bow nearby.

"It looks like he might have been out there a while," Humphries said.

Woodard's home is about a mile away on some dirt roads from where he was shot.

He was dressed in camouflage pants and had a similar pattern around his neck under a dark jacket, Humphries said. The boy was wearing a face mask, too, Jarratt said.

A woman noticed a shadowy figure lurking around a window when she returned from shopping, Humphries said.

She woke up her roommate, 42-year-old Randy William McCaw, who cocked his gun and went to investigate as the woman called 911.

"During the 911 call, there's what sounds like a shout and a crack of a gunshot," Humphries said.

On the recording, he heard a voice say: "I see you. Stop!"

Woodard was outside in the dark with only a light about 200 feet away on an outdoor shop.

"At one point the kid then turns toward the homeowner. At the time, he didn't know who it was," Humphries said.

McCaw fired a shot, then stayed with Woodard until deputies arrived.
