A 10-year-old Iowa boy died from an accidental shooting after his grandfather brought him to a gun range exclusive to law enforcement, police said.

Cade Hartwig, of Clear Lake, died in a hospital two days after suffering a wound to the head, police said.

Police said the boy was shot at a private, city-owned range in Garner, open only to members of law enforcement. The victim’s grandfather, identified as Tom Hartwig Sr., brought him and a younger grandson to the range Sunday afternoon.

It remains unclear how the shooting happened.

A woman was shot after a gun accidentally discharged in a Holly Springs parking lot Wednesday night, police said.

Holly Springs police officers responded to the area of 404 Village Walk Drive just after 10:30 p.m. in response to a call regarding a person who was shot. When officers arrived on scene they located a female victim.

The female was treated by emergency crews and then transported to WakeMed in Raleigh for an apparent gunshot wound. The victim’s condition is not available at this time, police said.

Police said that the shooting appeared to be “isolated and accidental in nature, with no ongoing threat to public safety.”

A Hampden man suffered critical injuries in what sheriff’s deputies are deeming an accidental shooting.

Deputies had arrived at a Swan Road residence shortly after 5 p.m. when it was reported Andrew Husson, 33, was accidentally shot, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy William Sheehan said.

Husson was accidentally shot by Joshua Ireland, 38, of Hermon, according to Sheehan. Husson was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

The incident remains under investigation, Sheehan said.

The Danville Police Department has confirmed that a 3-year-old boy died in an accidental shooting.

Police say the child’s body has been taken to the medical examiner for further investigation.

Police described the shooting as an “accidental discharge.”

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of last evening's shooting death as Blake Hettick, 20, of Missoula.

Hettick was shot in the abdomen shortly before 6:30 p.m., according to public information officer Brenda Bassett. The shooting occurred at a home on Kensington Avenue.

The incident remains under investigation by the Missoula Police Department. Detective Sgt. Jim Klawitter said while an early report indicated the shooting was accidental, police must complete their investigation before issuing a final determination. He said whether the shooting was self-inflicted or not is also still under investigation.

Boy killed in accidental shooting identified


The child who died after being shot has been identified as Greydun Flinn Stockinger.

He was 9 years old.

Police Chief E.J. Clark Jr. said the boy was shot with a handgun.

The family of a gun instructor who was accidentally shot and killed by a 9-year-old girl at a shooting range filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the gun range.

The lawsuit brought by family members of 39-year-old Charles Vacca claims Bullets and Burgers Corp acted negligently during the incident.

The shooting happened at an outdoor shooting range at the Last Stop in White Hills, AZ, near the Nevada-Arizona border.

Vacca was showing the girl how to fire a 9 mm automatic Uzi submachine gun when the girl couldn't handle the recoil and lost control of the gun, investigators said. The gun turned toward Vacca, who was shot in the head.

The Lawrence Police Department responded to an accidental shooting involving a 6-year-old.

Police tell KSNT News that around 7:45 a.m. officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Wisconsin Street in reference to an accidental shooting involving a 6-year-old child.

The child was transported to a local hospital. Police say the child is expected to recover and is currently being treated at a Kansas City area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Lawrence Police Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police tell KSNT News there were several adult witnesses at the residence, all of which have been interviewed by investigators.

A person was injured Monday at a Fort Myers gun range.

According to Fort Myers Police, an accidental shooting took place at Shoot Straight, located on Colonial Boulevard.

Police say the victim, a man, was shot by a family member.

The victim was taken to Lee Memorial for treatment.

Police said no criminal charges have been filed.

The owner of Shoot Straight wouldn't comment.

An accidental shooting resulted in one person being taken to the hospital

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Monday in the UPS employee parking lot on Founders way.

Officers on scene have confirmed that the shooting was accidental.

The victim was taken to a local area hospital.

As of July 1, state law allows a person to legally keep a gun in a car or truck without a permit.

UPS spokeswoman Peggy Gardner tells NewsChannel 9 that the company does not allow guns on the premises, and that the victim is a part-time employee who has worked for UPS for more than two years.

An overnight shooting at a Las Vegas casino left one man wounded and another being sought for questioning.

The shooting occurred just before 1:40 a.m. in a ninth-floor room, according to Metro Lt. David Gordon.

The victim was with three other males when there was an apparent accidental discharge of a firearm. He sustained two gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital.

A 22 year-old man was killed by his brother-in-law in an apparent accidental shooting.

Dakota Schriefer, 22, of Woodville, was accidentally shot in the chest by his brother-in-law, William Dabill, according to a release from the Tyler Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's Office received a 911 call at about from a caller stating a man had been accidentally shot with a handgun, the release said.

Schriefer was being taken to the Tyler County Hospital in a private vehicle as the 911 call was being made according to the release.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A Huber Heights man could be charged with using weapons while intoxicated after reportedly shooting himself while at the dentist.

A Clark County sheriff’s report states patient, James Short, 72, told police he heard his phone ringing and went to answer it but accidentally grabbed his weapon and shot himself.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly said no formal charges have been filed yet and the case will go before the prosecutor.

The incident happened about 11:55 a.m. Aug. 31 at New Carlisle Dental Group on South Church Street.

Nashville police said a 3-year-old boy shot himself in the wrist with a pistol his father carries.

The two had just gotten home and put down their backpacks, when the boy pulled the .40-caliber gun out of his dad’s bag and fired once.

The father quickly rushed the boy toward the hospital before encountering a Metro officer who called an ambulance to finish the trip.

A 14-year-old boy was taken to a Lexington hospital after another juvenile accidentally shot him in the neck, police said.

The boy was with two others, ages 16 and 17, playing with a handgun at the time of the shooting, Lexington police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said.

The juveniles did not know the gun was loaded and it went off, striking the 14-year-old, Angel said. The 16-year-old and 17-year-old panicked and ran after the shooting.
