Traffic was flowing again Wednesday on the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar after a shooting investigation closed lanes in both directions.

The shooting occurred in nearby La Puente shortly before 7:30 a.m. when two men got in a heated argument at Old Valley Road and Valley Boulevard, said Sgt. Tom Wilson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

One of the men pulled out a gun and fired “several rounds” at the other, Wilson said.

The two men fought over the gun, and the man who initially fired it fled in a vehicle.

He was injured and driving east on the 60 Freeway when he passed out.

His car skidded into the center divider just past Diamond Bar Boulevard.

An off-duty officer who stopped to help noticed the man was injured and had a gun.

He was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital, where he was under guard Wednesday.

The man he fought with was treated at a different hospital for three gunshot wounds: On his hand, the side of his head and in the middle of his face.

Heather Harris, the Hagerstown woman authorities say was shot twice in the head by her ex-boyfriend last Friday in her Dual Highway home, died Wednesday at Meritus Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

A statement from the family on Monday said that Harris’s organs would be harvested to help others. It described her as a woman who “loved children, fishing, dancing and shopping .... Beautifully spirited inside and out.”

Randy Houston McPeak, 43, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., called a friend and told her he had killed Harris, according to allegations in the statement of probable cause.

The friend later went to Harris’ house, found McPeak there and called police, the charging documents said. The standoff with police began at about 3 p.m. and ended with McPeak’s surrender at 10 p.m., the documents said.

The county’s Special Response Team was able to get the wounded Harris out of the house at about 7:30 p.m. as McPeak, armed with a small handgun, was isolated outside in an alcove at the front entrance of 1606 Dual Highway.

A ten-year-old boy is in Bronson Hospital after being shot in the face.

Calhoun County deputies say they were called to Oaklawn Hospital in the City of Marshall around 7:30 Wednesday night on the report of a victim with a gunshot wound.

Deputies say the ten-year-old boy was assisting his father in cleaning out the garage. As the boy was in the loft, he encountered a loaded shotgun.

Deputies believe the boy was grabbing other items around the shotgun, which depressed the trigger, causing the gun to go off, striking him in the face.
