Darla! Your Boyfriend!!!

HOLY SHIT KRUGMAN WON!

Now every time I cite Krugman, I can proudly preface it with "Noble-prize winning economist..." so that they can't immediately try to discredit him.

Didn't I predict this just like two days ago with an argument with Dano? I said "Dano, Krugman is a shoo-in for winning the nobel prize in the future." when he argued that it was an embarrassment to cite Krugman with Greenspan and Volker. Well Greenspan and Volker never won Nobel's, did they?

Here's something Krugman said about just this:

“I think we’ve learned this when we see Joe Stiglitz writing,” Mr. Krugman said, referring to the winner of the economics Nobel in 2001. “I haven’t noticed him getting an easy time. People just say, ‘Sure, he’s a great Nobel laureate and he’s very smart, but he still doesn’t know what he’s talking about in this situation.’ I’m sure I’ll get the same thing.”

Top for one, believes he is smarter than Stiglitz. So this probably won't change that, but deep down? They are all fuming over this.

For the most part Krugman is a free trader, so unless this model is much differant than his previous stuff, Krugman won based on theories most Conservative economist would, at least to an extent, agree with.

Free trade is a liberal idea, Obf. It doesn't take believing that minimum wage should be abolished to have sense about free trade.

And shouldn't the fact that the world's most distiguished trade theorist, nobel-prize winner Paul Krugman, believes that government intervention in the economy to help the poor is justified and doesn't hurt the free trade models tell you something?

Yeah, libs from about 100 years ago. Leftists today are opposed to free trade. Every so often a bunch of them congregate at my college and have a "Fair Trade Bake Sale." I should go to one and laugh at them someday...

Left /= liberal

Please tell me, when did liberals 'flee' from free trade? It has only been in the past 30 years that a minority on the left has become opposed to it, and unlike opposition on the right, that is not because they love business so much and hate foreigners.

And even socialist parties in most countries are supportive of free trade. Only the extreme left opposes free trade. And there are even more on the right who oppose it.

Yeah, I know left does not equal liberal, but liberalism is basically dead. Everyone either joined the left or is running around calling themselves a neocon.

And yes, its sad that there are many on the right who oppose free trade. These are the same gurus who spout off nonsense about the NAU and Jewish conspiracies (i.e. Asshate).

But the Left is generally pretty fair trade. Look at all the crap they are giving Bill Clinton over NAFTA.

The Nobel Prize was discredited in my eyes when Al Gore won it.

Even serious advocates for government action on global warming have gone on record claiming that Gore exaggerated the consequences and effects.

Haha, how opportune for you that Friedman won it before "it was discredited" huh? LOL

Oh well, that's in your eyes.

Yep, Friedman won it when it meant something. When times were good, and men were men, and etc.

Actually I'm just messing with you. I don't particularly care. Krugman's smart but I don't know if he deserves a Nobel Prize. Clearly the Committee thought otherwise. I'll live.

The peace prize always has been subjective and political.

The economic prize has gone to all walks of economists from Keynesians to Austrians to Neo Classicals to Monetarists. Krugman is a good technical economist, that doesn't mean his side job as an op ed writter isn't political and at times misleading. Two seperate issues.
