Walter Cronkite I understand. The point is he READ the news and did not make it into a political commentary. Although he did do commentary spots they were clearly identified as such.
The more I think about this thread the more I am amused.
People sound insulted that a politician thinks they are stupid. But we continually prove them right. H.L. Menken said "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the american people".
We think we have all these choices and freedoms, but the choices we have are trivial, and the things that matter give us few or no choices.
You want to buy ice cream? They have 31 flavors. You want choices in who to vote for? Basically there are two. [ty George Carlin]
If you look at the religious organizations and the political clout they have, its scary. Their entire premise is based on the fact that there is an invisible man who watches everything you do and keeps track of every rule you break. He holds you responsible for even THINKING about doing something bad. But since he see everything, he also lets terrorists kill thousands of innocent people, single moms get cancer, children get brutally abused, old people get cheated out of their life savings, and entire species get wiped out. People scam us and steal from us in his name and he does nothing about it.
But he LOVES us.
And yet this same group of people can stop someone from getting elected. If a candidate said he was an atheist he would be finished.
This same group thinks god blesses OUR country and wants us to be greater than other countries.
Roughly 65% of the people in this country believe in angels. That means 2 out of every 3 people believe there are invisible beings that will help them when they screw up.
I think anyone who doesn't think this country is full of idiots is either an idiot or hasn't been paying attention.
