Drug Legalization, My Personal Opinion...

On the contrary Dixie. I have children and would rather they live in a world where drug income doesn't fuel gang warfare but rather the exchequer.

Legalization of pot or any other drug, would not stop drug cartels from fueling gang warfare. It would immediately legitimize the cartels as lucrative drug dispensaries. You think turning their criminal activity into a commercial enterprise is a good idea?

That's why bootlegging is so profitable right?

I would have thought it was obvious that licencing would have to be involved. Do bars in the US not have to be licensed?

Introducing market forces and the competition that that involves would drive down prices, making it largely unprofitable for cartels to try to stay in this market. It would also remove the market from the hands of the low level street gangs that create so much low level crime.

The criminals would switch to other drugs. Philip Morris would take the cartels and the califorinias profits. Dixie is woefull on economics.

For $5 an ounce?

Drug cartels only exist because of prohibition.

The free market would certainly bring down the cost. The drug cartels would have the same results as the mafia did when prohibition of alcohol ended.

The big boys took their money and started Las Vegas casinos.

A very good point well made. I would add that criminalisation of drugs hands street gangs significant income, funding gang warfare. At least in GB, that is, but I would assume the same in the US?

True that. What do you think began the Gangsters during Prohibition here in the US? Without prohibition those gangs would never have formed, let alone shot each other down over territory.

Prohibition of drugs isn't any smarter than prohibition of alcohol was, it creates a war in the streets, it provides easy access to children, it wastes our money, our time, and creates more problems than it will ever solve. It is just plain foolish policy that doesn't even begin to do what its stated goal is.

dixie uses repub talking points the same way BFged used them, with no basis in reality.

No, the Republican talking points are; Drugs are detrimental to our youth and we must perservere in the War on Drugs for our children. I think I have been quite outspoken on this, I don't support the War on Drugs, and I favor decriminalization of pot. I take a lot of shit from social conservatives over my position, I don't need more shit from YOU, thank you.

Dixie you grandwizard of bubba's in bama, when you show economic ignorance like "legalizing won't affect cartels" you deserve all the shit you get from both sides.

Please see bootlegging drop post booze prohibition for precedent.
