you don't convert it really, you just need a phono preamp to feed the signal into the sound input in your PC and you can record it. Several software packages out there.

I had to clean my old turntable up and put a new cartridge in it, new belt, lubricate, etc.

I had the preamp, I think you can pick those up at ratshack. I will check on other software and options and let you know. One outfit sells a truntable ready to plud into you pc and software.
