From the desk of Newt :)

What problem(s) did you have with the Contract With America?

My issues were what was done with it. Initially I supported it. I thought some of the points it made were good. What I didn't expect was for Republicans to interpret this support as a rubber stamp endorsement of a far right wing agenda.

Newt is the second biggest douche bag ever, Ashcroft being the first.
Funny a dozen years later he still has a few Nazi bottstrapping fans.

You got that right. If the Repubs want to be more than a permanent minority they have to distance them selves from the leaders who brought them to this current mess they are in. Newt be one of them.

Isn't this the same shill that came up with the Contract with America? That was the beginning of the end of my being a Republican. This nation needs Newt's imput right now like we need a hole in the head.

He has about as much credibility on this as he does on fidelity.

Newt resided over a congress that helped grow this economy faster than any other congress to date. It is because of his leadership in congress under Clinton, that we saw the first real welfare reform that Obama is seeking to dismantle with this horrible bill.

The Contract with America was only a disapointment, imo, because house members did not support many of the bills the senate brought forth. The premise of the contract were sound conservative ideals.

Newt is very much an important, reasonable, and sound voice of intelligence and experience for the GOP as we move away from milk toast moderation and back to our conservative roots.

don't confuse the rules of capitalism with the current bought and paid for big business rules we have today. they are not the same.

Those have become part of the rules of the Americanized form of capitalistic socialism. No ideology longs exists in it's pure form.

Newt resided over a growing majority that was squandered my milk toast moderates. You have the circumstances backwards. It is the conservative ideology of the Newt's in the GOP that grew our party.

no shit. the 'contract' was an awesome idea and would have made long term prosperity and freedom achievable, had they stuck to it.

A pretty big part of the "Contract" passed. What specifically did not pass that you think would have guaranteed long-term prosperity?

they are only here now because 'the people' widely accepted them without complaint, especially since it only affected them with immediate positive results. If 'the people' had the ability to think in the long term, they would never have stuck around.

why don't you place the blame where it squarely belongs? the hands and minds of ignorance.

There seems to be this odd manner of wing nuts that if they keep telling them selves the same thing over and over and over again that it will make it true.

The Republican party is farther to the right than in any time in my life time. Please tell me, how many branches of government do Republican control and what's their out look for the next election?

Keep telling your self this non-sense and it will be a looooong time before you'll see another Republican President or congressional majority.

I don't need to tell myself what, as a party memeber, I hear from other party members who pushed for a guy like Steele, a traditional conservative, to take the reins. The push for the GOP to become moderate these last few years is what has cost us, but the next election cycle will certainly tell all.
