Absolutely true. This is going to be a summer of important, far-reaching decisions. I have a feeling that most of them are going to go against the American people and our wishes.

We got here, I believe, because we're NOT a people of compatible values and wishes.
After the Revolutionary War, we had thirteen former British colonies suddenly independent.

They decided to form a single nation of themselves.
In the process, it became quite evident that the southern states and northern states had seriously incompatible values.

They thus created a Constitution laden with vague compromises,
creating an intentionally inefficient government comprised of metrics
upon which both sides could agree and completely avoiding essential metrics altogether
in order to reach agreement.

This continent, fertile land between two great oceans, had such spectacular resources and natural blessings
that even the most fucked up government imaginable couldn't prevent it from prospering....BUT

no matter how long it takes--even if it's 250 years--.
the consequences of bad choices will manifest themselves.

We're the generation facing the music.
