Only if we devalue our own discourse. If it is going to be "only" that, first we'd have to go down to that level. There is something to be said for taking off the kid gloves and going at it sometimes. Both types of posters can still have good ideas. I have even learned while people are "insulting" me (I use quotes there because it is almost impossible to get me to take offense to something you "say" to me).

BAC bashed liberals too. His political views didn't match anyone here.

But I think he brought an interesting perspective to things. He had an amazing number of experiences and knew an amazing number of people.

I disagreed with him often enough. But I respected him and think the boards will be less without him.

When he called me a racist and the way he treated some women on this board, any respect I had for him flew out the window.

He also bashed liberals, Obama and Obama voters, do you have blinders on?

I didn't always agree with his opinions but he was very intelligent, his posts were well-written, and he gave me something to think about.
