LOL Ya know when I was living in Dayton I had a friend, Chuck, who was a full blooded Cherokee. Since they tend to be tall, slim with angular features and since my friend dressed conservatively, most people thought he was of mediteranian descent and did not realize that he's a native American and he normally didn't tell people he was.

One day we were drinking beer at his house and couple of his hillbilly friends came over to drink beer. Eventually the discussion went to politics and race and they started doing the usuall red neck talk about blacks and one of them started saying "We ought to send them all back where they came from". Chuck kept smiling and agreeing with them and agreeing with them "Yup, we oughta send them all back!" and those two hillbilly's didn't understand why I was laughing as hard as I was. :)

Even when we told them that Chuck was a Cherokee they still didn't get it.

But most analysis indicates we can cut spending on health care by about half if we reform it as other wealthy industrialized nations have done. If so, we would save trillions so that argument doesn't hold water.

But a government plan would lower costs across the board and that's the whole idea. Statistics taken from every country, without exception, show government medical insurance/coverage lowers costs.

The government is trying to help you, Liberty. :D

As long as all necessary medical procedures are available free of charge. Private medical can be used for elective surgery and for people who don't want to wait.

An analogy may be a freeway vs a toll highway. For example, some Floridians may opt for the turnpike rather than the I-95. On the other hand, being a tourist there's no rush to get to the mall.

Meanwhile, the snow keeps falling here. :(

Hell becomes more appealing every winter.

Not really. As a cardiac patient I get a regular medication top up. 4 different tablets. I have stopped going every month (my own request although I could go every week if it was necessary) and now go for a check up and another supply of drugs every 4 months. A week before I see the doc I get a blood test. Cost? Blood test = F.O.C., Consultation = F.O.C., drugs = HK$60.00 = about US$7.50. If I was unable to pay the $7.50 I would get it free. Insurance? What is that? That in one of the most capitalist societies on earth! The service I get is the same as if I went private (I know because I tried it), they are the same doctors! They make big bucks in the private sector and make more people well in the public sector.

It depends on the definition of big government. Think of it as mass production. Just as mass production lowers cost so does having combined services.

The problem is not being "big". The problem is possible corruption. The problems in the past, which many refer to regarding Socialism/Communism, was the corruption. In a democracy governments can be replaced so it's a check on corruption.

A fine theory indeed. However when you marry corruption and democracy you get what you poor people had to live through for eight long nan bloodthirsty years under bush, a Corruptacy.

In a democracy, a majority of the voters can vote to do away with everyones rights.

They can vote for Communism, etc.
