On a bitterly cold and snowing afternoon in Aberdeen, the doors of St John's Episcopal Church are open to hundreds of Muslim worshippers, arriving for daily prayers.

The familiar sounds of Christian hymns have been replaced with Islamic prayer in the chapel this Friday lunchtime and the church priest with the imam from the neighbouring mosque.

Muslims from the Syed Shah Mustafa Jame Masjid mosque next door share this church with Christian worshippers up to five times a day.

Church leaders believe this may be the only place in the country where Christian and Muslim worshippers pray side by side.

The rector at St John's has opened his doors to Muslims because there was not enough space for them to pray in their own mosque and many were forced to worship outside on the street.

The Reverend Isaac Poobalan, who grew up in Southern India surrounded by Islam, said he would not have been true to his faith if he did not help his neighbours.

Since I got groaned, I will elaborate.

It's a mathematical fact that homosexuals are abnormal. That does not tell us anything about their character or rights nor whether the traits are desirable or undesirable.

That's not much better. In that case, all males are abnormal inasmuch as we are outnumbered by females.

There is only 'normal' when there are parameters. Therefore you might ask are blond men normal or are people with big feet normal. If the parameter is the whole of humanity then homosexuality, being in the minority, may be judged as being 'not normal' (note: I did not say 'abnormal') Chinese people in America and Americans in China would be considered not normal. 'Abnormal' has grown horns and now carries with it deviant, ignorant, unintelligent, deformed and no one, no matter how far to the right they may be could make a blanket statement to say all homosexuals conform to those things.

Yes, in the US, men could be said to be abnormal in the same sense (though usually abnormal means significantly less typical). A better example would be those with IQs over 130. It's not a value judgment.

Abnormal = not normal = deviant. Those all mean the same thing. There is nothing improper about not being normal, being abnormal or being a deviant from the norm. If your morality is built on conformist notions then that might be hard to accept, but a lot of things that were considered "normal" are now recognized as being immoral behaviors.

Abnormal does not mean ignorant, unitelligent or deformed. Abnormal is an adjective that often describes another adjective. Alone, it just means not normal. A sentence that reads...

Jack was abnormal.

Leaves the reader wondering/asking in what way. He could be abnormal in a way that is good, bad or indifferent. But all we know is that he is not normal. He could be abnormally tall. Some might see that as a positive, negative or, like me, indifferently.

I agree. However there are prescriptive meanings and descriptive. Words seldom mean precisely what the dictionary says they mean. That's why I made the point. We have a bunch of loonies here who will do their best to spin anything.

I know lots if people who don't go because of it. Doesn't matter to me what Disney does, I don't have to go there.

Now if I were a liberal I would stomp my feet to get my way.

If l Disney can support its business model on less than 1% then I say God bless.
 
The toothless hicks that can't afford a trip to Disney jump on the gay thing as an excuse to their wifes and children for not going. They really just don't want to cut into their beer and hillbilly heroin budgets.
