The tents are too big to have any meaningful common ideology.
A group of equally viable multiple parties would be better, forcing the discussions required to form coalitions.
However, that would spell the end of general elections choosing POTUS.
Nobody would get the required electoral votes, OR for that matter, popular votes--if that mattered-- to win.
Every presidential choice would be made by the House of Representatives.
We're either OK with that or we're not,
but as a registered member of one of the two viable parties,
