I did not see one reply to the actual post, just a lot of complaints that bringing up the fact Vance is a carpetbagger is a "meme."
The fact is his book is about his experiences in suburban Cincinnati, and has nothing to do with Appalachia. He speaks of deindustrialization causing the poverty in Appalachia, but Appalachia was never very industrialized, was always poor, and is not part of the Rust Belt.
