Agreed to an extent. Unless there are advances in genetic treatments and mental healthcare, there will always be a large segment of society that ain't too bright, just a little crazy and susceptible to manipulation by the rich and powerful.

Even if you want to say (which i would not agree with) that they are benign cults, they are still cults by any definition you would use of cult.

Organized religion conditions people to put 'Faith', before 'reason', 'logic', 'fact' and 'truth'. If any of those collide with your Faith Teachings, you are told to discard them and just have 'Faith'. Hold to your 'Faith' and you will get the right faith based outcome. Even if that has to be a 'miracle' as there is no logical way to there otherwise.



So from the youngest ages, anyone going thru that type of religious dogma training, of being able to set aside, reason, logic, fact and truth, and to look to your like minded community who do the same ....is going to be more susceptible to cults.


(and NO, that does not mean everyone in organized religion would fall into other cuilts, but if even 1 in 1000 religious people are susceptible to other cults, that is still staggeringly big numbers in the US)
