Many go out of business and cannot account for their money (as is true for private for-profit colleges that exist on federal loans and grants). In Arizona, charter schools are accountable to the state, just not to the level public schools are. They have more flexibility on what to teach, and more importantly, on what not to teach. Thus, you have a number of then that are growing in popularity called "Traditional schools" where bullshit like sex education and social and economic justice aren't on the curricula.
Parents are increasingly opting out of the radical Leftist bullshit in education and the Left, and teacher's unions, are furious about it.

Republicans must be doing a poor job of controlling a state if they can't control the state's single largest expenditure. But, I was referencing the "indoctrination" claim. If most of the state's voters are voting Republican the claim that they are being indoctrinated by Democrats is a sham. With Congress being split between the two parties and the last two presidential elections being almost evenly divided the claim that either party is indoctrinating our students holds no water. It is just a claim by people who have no familiarity with current educational practices.
