WTF? Jackson was responsible for the Trail of Tears. Johnson succeeded Lincoln, and became the first of three presidents to botch Reconstruction...
Yeah but why bring him into the picture? Grisby was probably a Civil War vet, and Johnson is the bastard Democrat coming out of that conflict.

Uhh, because the text on the stone specifically mentions Jackson?
:cof1: Good point.

Still, "since the days of Jackson" merely alerted him to the moral void that is the Democrat Party. I just figured the mortal disdain of this Republican soldier would have been galvanized during the Johnson era.

But that's merely my conjecture.

His gravestone also says his name is "GRIGSBY" :)

Well, the Democratic Party was founded by Jackson. Its just a fancy way of saying the party has always been morally bankrupt. And yes, if I had been a soldier in the war, I would hate the Dems that much as well for making it come about through their treason.

I think it was a real slap in the face to the country to have a Dem succeed Lincoln, and to have another one become president so soon after the war (Cleveland).

I think its still a slap in the face. First they shove slavery down our throats, then they establish segregation, then they expand the Republic into a socialist state, then they get the issue of former slaves to keep them in office.

Its fucking outrageous- like some weird movie featuring the Liars Club.

Truth is stranger than fiction. The anti-Catholic party coned the Catholic immigrants into voting for it with class warfare. The racist party coned the segregated masses into voting for it with class warfare. Bottom line, people placed greed ahead of all else, so the party of Jackson survives to this day.
