Most gender-confused children grow out of it, landmark 15-year study concludes

Researchers in the Netherlands tracked more than 2,700 children from age 11 to their mid-twenties, asking them every three years of feelings about their gender.

Results showed at the start of the research, around one-in-10 children (11 percent) expressed 'gender non-contentedness' to varying degrees.

But by age 25, just one-in-25 (4 percent) said they 'often' or 'sometimes' were discontent with their gender.

The researchers concluded: 'The results of the current study might help adolescents to realize that it is normal to have some doubts about one’s identity and one’s gender identity during this age period and that this is also relatively common.'

It comes amid a massive boom in transgender children receiving drugs to change their gender in the US - as critics say doctors and parents are not challenging young people enough.

Patrick Brown, a fellow at the conservative Ethics and Public Policy Center who was not involved in the research, told DailyMail.com: 'This study provides even more reason to be skeptical towards aggressive steps to facilitate gender transition in childhood and adolescence.

'The fact that rates of satisfaction are lower even just a few years later suggests that for the vast majority of people, prudence and caution, rather than a rush towards permanent surgeries or hormone therapies, will be the best approach for teenagers struggling to make sense of the world and their place in it.

'As such, policies that prohibit gender transition for minors make a great deal of sense.'

So what's the solution?

SO LETS LET THEM START TO CHANGE OVER AT AGE 12 BEFORE THEY GROW OUT OF IT

So what's the solution?

The article relates one such solution, a very simple one that doesn't even cost much... Waiting before we let people make permanent changes to themselves that will affect their entire lives.

Haircuts, etc. go for it, but permanent changes should be avoided, it seems that most of these folks will become comfortable with their sex.

We constantly hear that sex and gender are separate things, but at the same time we hear that the only option is to artificially change the sex... I believe everyone has the right to change their own body as they see fit, once they are adult enough to make life affecting decisions. If we don't trust them to go to a bar and drink, we should not be trusting them with such life affecting decisions as this.

The solution is for doctors to stop playing god and trying to reassign gender. It's all just the illusion of gender anyway.

That doesn't change my belief that we all have the right to change our bodies as we see fit. This idea that your belief in a God should make it so I cannot cut off my penis should I want to is an affront to folks who believe in the US Constitution.

Let adults go ahead and chop things off their bodies if that is what they want to do. It's no skin off your nose. Unless you want a smaller nose. We let folks increase boob sizes regularly, penile enlargements are "a okay"...(another thing that children shouldn't be allowed to make decisions on, and parents shouldn't be allowed to make such body and life affecting decisions on their behalf either) but if someone wants to do something you think is "wrong" they can't because you won't let them...

News Flash... You don't get a vote once they reach that magical age we call adult.

You can cut your pecker off if you want too. Doctors shouldn't Just like doctors shouldn't cut off a functional leg or arm.

I agree w/ this. Children go through so many changes, and that would be a massive regret if they make a choice too early and it turns out to be something like a passing phase they were just going through.

I hope in the future we can separate both this concept & the concern about both sports and bathrooms (which are legit concerns people have) with the idea of transgenderism in general. We need to start respecting people's choices and who they are, as long as it harms no one else.

Yeah, cutting off your dick or your tits makes "growing out of it" very difficult.
