I don't think Obama or McCain are among the Elite. Clinton probably is.

As far as Obama is concerned, he is such a skilled speaker that when speaking to the Elite of California, he used words that fit his audience. A bad choice of words - yes.

The coastal elite think Midwesterners are "simple" to use a mild word, and Obama was trying to soften them up and excuse our simpleness. His comments were offensive, but he is not Elite. Elite - No, a Politician - Yes. Welcome to the club. They are all Politicians!
