The mid-east region has been warlike for all of recorded history. Even during the Ottoman empire (which brought a modicum of peace through strong enforcement), the area was largely written off as just a dangerous neighborhood best avoided. After WW1, that enforcement was removed, and it just escalated further.

And that was before Jews returned to the region and re-established Israel.

Asking for peace among these barbarians is asking for the Moon (and I don't mean moonbat!).

Once Israel was re-established, it provides a certain amount of focus among the barbarians. Yeah, they still hate each other, but they ALL hate Israel.

Hamas is just one of the latest terrorist groups to attack Israel, starting the current war. Not much left of Hamas now, but Israel is still going after Hamas leaders and any other militants, 'civilian' or not. That war has not ended.
