It also was a time for action and the American government had to do something to calm the market and assure lenders so they would lend again.

That is what REALLY pisses me off. They scream that this is an emergency and that we NEED to do this to save our economy. Then they shovel the pork, the earmarks and the bullshit onto the bill.

I have no problem with rum or tequila. (not much of a vodka drinker)

I would be happy to spend more on rum & tequila (although Patron is high enough) instead of adding bullshit to the bill.

nobody is for it. but whats the alternative? do nothing and lose 8T in market cap? spend 1T bailing out important banks? watch companies flatline because cant get any capital to expand? Watch jobs shrink because of cutback?

What's the alternative???
The whole problem is a mountain of bad loans brought on by a shitload of government involvement from backing bad loans to the CRA, to encouraging low interest rates forever, how are you going to fix that? Certainly not with more government.
