Socialism is No Longer a Dirty Word

Obama has a real 3rd party feel to him. Sure he is a Democrat, but he really appealed to lots of those who would call him green.
Yeah "feel" being the operative word.

"According to a Washington Post database, Obama votes with his party 96 percent of the time, which makes him tied for the eleventh most partisan member of the Senate. At 96.6 percent, his running mate Joe Biden is the eighth most partisan senator. "

The facts show that Obama is just a plain regular partisan Democrat.

I would say that the average Green, if forced to pick a side to vote with on the bills that come up for a vote in Congress would side with the Democrats about 96% of the time.

Yeah, and an actual democrat would vote less than that why?

The reality is only 5 Senators voted more often on the party line than Obama, and only 7 more than Biden did. Your conjecture on how a Greenie would vote in the Senate notwithstanding, reality paints a different picture.

Most bills that come up for a vote are fairly conservative for the average "green" voter. I would say the Democrats usually vote on the liberal side of a conservative bill. While the average "Green" would perfer a more liberal bill in the first place, they would, if forced to vote, would usually vote on the more liberal side.

Example, if a bill came up to limit the release of toxic gas from coal plants, most greens would support it, if forced to take a side.... But they would perfer to ban the release of toxic gas all togehter... thus while being more liberal than the Democrats, they would still vote on the same side!

One more time for the slow. The actual Democrats don't usually vote that often with their party. The assumption that somebody from a different party would follow their line is only an assumption. And a poor one.

When reality doesn't fit your conjecture that unicorns exist, you just pretend it looks that way and shape your own cornea into the shape of a unicorn....

False, I belive that the Democratic position on most bills is the more liberal position. I belive the Greens are more liberal than the Democrats. It only follows that if forced to choose yea or nay on the bills brought to a vote in the Congress, the Greens would choose the same side as the Democrats most of the time.

You believe in the magic of unicorns. As I explained.

If such were as you suggested party Libertarians would vote more often with the republican party line than republicans do. But it doesn't happen. Partisan republicans vote more often with the republican party line, partisan democrats vote more often with the democrat party line, it is why the parties have delineation.

It is silly to suggest that a different party would vote more often with a party just because you want them to. If they were going to vote more often than the members of the party along that party's line then they would just be members of that party.

No, because Libertarians are social liberals. Libertarians do no not fall easily along that spectrum.

Not all Greens are social liberals, nor are all libertarians socially liberal. You are making generalities.

The reality is, if they were going to vote even more than democrats along democratic party lines then they would be democrats. Even if you believe reality is shaped like a unicorn, it doesn't make it true.

Obama votes along party lines because he is partisan. Unless, of course, the vote is controversial. Then he avoids it like the plague and invents how he may have voted on it afterward.

I'd have to agree with Damo on this one. I'm much more conservative but find myself agreeing more with the Libertarian party point of view than either the Republican (or should I say New Republican?) point of view or the Democrat one. Abortion is just one example. I'm very much anti-abortion, but realistically speaking an outright ban is not the best way to go. Much of the so-called socially conservative points of view are too strict and unrealistic and even though I agree with the ideas the reality is that in today's world they won't work so a different plan of attack is needed.

As for the Liberal point of view... I'm not anywhere near that idea. I don't believe that the government owes me a living, in big government or tax... tax... tax.

Immie

Unfortunately I agree with that as well.

I usually vote for the Green in any race the Democrat is certain to lose or win. But the state of the alternative parties in America is still pretty sad. Even for people with our electoral system, the third parties usually aren't so shitty.

Well it's good that Obama was one of the most Democratic senators. We need more like that. But he's unfortunately turning into a huge moderate.
