Suggestion: allow thread bans AFTER a thread discussion starts

Maybe not in the software program, but it would be nice to have if it's possible.

There are a couple of posters here who simply derail threads with their posting. Once that starts, it would be a good function to be able to thread ban them retroactively.

Yes. You have to notify a moderator and they have to do it. It may take 24 hours so it is not always effective.

Disagree.

Anticipating the likely offenders is a skill that subscribers should make the effort to cultivate.

The thread author either wants a wide open discussion or not.

When I start a thread, I'm mostly into delivering my monologue,
so I thread ban people merely on the anticipation that they won't applaud it.

In that the internet is more for venting than discussion, I highly recommend this practice.

Trolls vent. Many of us come here to discuss politics.

Here's a perfect example of someone on both my "thread ban" and "ignore" lists.

British Petroleum and I have no interest in sharing discourse with one another.

If BartenderElite does not mind, here is a model for how to make an argument.

First, state your position on an issue.
Second, give a reason or two for why it is true.

If you do not agree, say, here is why I disagree with your position.

As Heraclitus said, listen not to me but the reason (logic).
