The success of secularism. The failure of religion.

No, secularism cannot reassure us that the universe is governed by a benevolent deity, or that the wicked will be punished and the good rewarded, or that our souls will be clasped after death in the bosom of Abraham.

This is a pretty selective and caricatured portrait of the significance of religion.

Religion, first and foremost, is a metaphysical moral vision, a binding system of ethics, for how to live this life, in this world.

This is plainly obvious to anyone who is familiar with Buddhism's eightfold path, the five tenets of Jainism, the pillars of Islam, the four tenets of Hinduism, and the ethical teachings of the Jewish prophets and Christian apostles.

On the flipside, yes, in terms of civil and political rights, and a secular education, humanism has more than earned it's keep.

Not everyone is religious so they naturally are secular, whether they know it or not!

What binding ethical system or cohesive moral vision is secularism proposing?

None.

It's a stupid question to even ask.

Secularism has earned it place in spades in our civil and political institutions, in our public schools and universities.

But some people need a little more than that.

Some do ,most don't especially Americans who lead the league in being self absorbed!

We all know what the religious values are. They belong to culture. As Hume said, "ought" does not proceed from "is."
