What a sad state of affairs we have in the United States

Wow, three people try to tell me that it doesn't matter that the Democrats controlled the purse strings for four years of Bush's 8, including the last two.

I find it more likely that it does matter, and they just don't want people to be reminded.

How many people have to tell you before you understand?

I understand how the division of power is listed in the Constitution. What I wonder about is why we never hold the Congress' feet to the fire and try to excuse their actions by extending more power than the President has to the Executive.

Do you understand the cracks were appearing in the economy by 2005?

Seriously? Do you actually believe that the debt crisis wasn't decades in the making? Congress has discovered that they can convince people who refuse to understand who holds the purse strings that a generational debt load isn't immoral and deadly to the economic health of the nation, and they use this to convince those same stupid people to blame others for their failing.

The only way we'll ever be able to force Congress to control the spending is through a Constitutional Amendment.

So your prior comments were entirely disengenuous?

Yes, they did concede to all of Bush's wishes. Two wars, many new departments with big budgets.

Actually, Bush wanted Homeland Security to be an office within the executive branch. Congress insisted that it be a separate department.

That's an utter strawman. The whole fiasco had nothing to do with who had control of the purse strings and had everything to do with the executive branch being asleep at the wheel and not enforcing the laws and regulations all ready on the book. This recession is Bush's recession. Obama owns it now and deserves just criticism for not doint more faster but it sure as hell wasn't his fault and it wasn't congresses fault. This was the fault of an inept and incompetent executive, George W. Bush, and his mismanagement of that branch of our government. PERIOD.

Recession was over by June 2009. Before most any of the Obama administration policies had been implemented. The recession ended by itself. Obama has done nothing but prolonged the recovery.

Actually I think spending went down just a bit during those years.

40 Years Of Workers Left Behind (CHART)

It may be there is another cause for that...

Record number of people on food stamps does not lead to higher household income.

Its not possible to be 'fiscally responsible' when social programs passed by ignorant and irresponsible socialists are cleaning out the treasury .....

lol i know... medicare/caid and social security make up 40% of our budget, and it's conservatism that's at fault.

Not particularly. They underlined the current reality, too many people spend hours on here stupidly arguing that this was "Bush's" fault. It's a stupid premise based on partisanship rather than reality.

The reality is we've all been part of this current issue. A debt crisis building since 1962 may culminate during Bush's terms, but it certainly isn't Bush who "caused" the problem. One thing that I know, the current President promising to spend 1.2 Trillion (three times Bush's worst years) over the next 20 years (yeah, he really predicted that spending) is absolutely insane. This isn't solution he's going for here, it is simply power he plans on buying with the money of future generations.

damo you are forgetting presidents have a big red button in the oval office that they push when they want the economy to get better or worse. the democrats couldn't do anything about it at all.
