Since the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, University of Chicago Prof. Robert Pape has been closely observing the threats to our democracy. Now, the renowned terrorism expert and director of the Chicago Project on Security and Threats (CPOST) says that violent ideas coming from a dedicated minority are moving from fringe to mainstream.

In 2021, Pape's team, along with NORC at the University of Chicago, launched the Dangers to Democracy tracker, an ongoing series of surveys to track Americans' thoughts and attitudes about political violence. In one recent survey, about 12 million Americans said they believe violence is justified to restore Trump to power. Still, Pape believes the data may give us some answers about how to move forward, and how to strengthen the center.

Well, the OP (AKA "She Who Must Not be Named"...LMAO!) led with an argument from Authority fallacy, and it sure didn't get any better from there. :palm:

"Appeal to authority
Definition: Often we add strength to our arguments by referring to respected sources or authorities and explaining their positions on the issues we’re discussing. If, however, we try to get readers to agree with us simply by impressing them with a famous name or by appealing to a supposed authority who really isn’t much of an expert, we commit the fallacy of appeal to authority.

Example: “We should abolish the death penalty. Many respected people, such as actor Guy Handsome, have publicly stated their opposition to it.” While Guy Handsome may be an authority on matters having to do with acting, there’s no particular reason why anyone should be moved by his political opinions—he is probably no more of an authority on the death penalty than the person writing the paper.

Tip: There are two easy ways to avoid committing appeal to authority: First, make sure that the authorities you cite are experts on the subject you’re discussing. Second, rather than just saying “Dr. Authority believes X, so we should believe it, too,” try to explain the reasoning or evidence that the authority used to arrive at his or her opinion. That way, your readers have more to go on than a person’s reputation. It also helps to choose authorities who are perceived as fairly neutral or reasonable, rather than people who will be perceived as biased."

He is one of the worlds top experts on how to understand the type of issues we face in America at the moment

He turned his research focus onto America after J/6

He studied 400 of the first people charged for J/6

800 people went inside the capital and were targeted first for identification and arrest

He interviewed them and researched who they were as citizens

He released those results in 23

Now he’s further defining what we face currently

Can you tell us what this expert who actually studied the problem for years has to say?

Or will you merely not listen because he’s a world recognized expert?

with James K. Feldman, Cutting the Fuse: The Explosion of Global Suicide Terrorism and How to Stop It. University of Chicago Press, 2010. ISBN 978-0-226-64560-5

His ideas of how to deal with suicide bombing streak ended the streak

We know to you results mean nothing

It’s only 30 minutes folks

He knows how to fix it

He helped the world greatly reduce suicide bombing

And not just the US

One of his findings is that 80% of Americans don’t think violence is acceptable in to solve our problems

Most answered that question by picking the Option of most strenuous belief in that answer

Russian and China will not be able to foment real violence after trump loses

The remaining 20% both include republicans and Democrats answering that violence may be the answer

He found that the aggressors on J/6 were surprisingly from Blue states and their denser populated areas

Not Rural poor from red states

They were professionals and CEOs

Their main reason was “Replacement theory”

There are very few Republican professional and CEOs that will be willing to lose EVERYTHING and go to prison now
