New deal, without the TVA and the federal highway, Grand coulee, hoover dam, etc WW2 would have been quite a bit more difficult.
TVA electricity was used to make aluminum for airplanes, steel for tanks, etc and to refine uranium at oak ridge. Highways to transport war materials, etc.

I can’t believe you are considering voting for John McCain when it is not that long ago that you and Dave were lecturing me on how I’d have to vote third party unless the Democratic party nominee was sufficiently anti-war, or I’d be a hypocrite. And after all your friends were having to go to Iraq, and what if there was a draft?

I said that I am open to persuasion, as is any reasonable voter. All three candidates have at least some redeeming quality.
If he has earnestly changed his positions, Barr is most in line with me ideologically.
If McCain doesn't make a commitment to withdrawing from Iraq, he is out of the question.
If Obama sticks by his plan to raise the capital gains tax or if he supports a national CC ban, he is out of the question.
This isn't some Good vs Evil election. Each candidate has individual nuances, defects, and skills that should be well considered before making a commitment.
My choices from the original field were: 1) Ron Paul, 2) Mitt Romney, 3) Barack Obama.
Right now it seems most likely I will vote for Obama, since my state is a potential swing state. But if Obama says something crazy between now and the election I will probably end up voting Barr.
It would be hard for me to construct a scenario in which I would vote McCain, but since I am not closeminded I am willing to at least give him the same consideration as the others.

The potential of Obama to win is going to depend on the votes of people like Chapdog and Epi, whether or not the turbo-libs like it. Hopefully he won't decide to alienate them.
