Why the liberal arts are important

I once dated a girl who got into Tulane law school with a 2.4 GPA with a Home Economics degree from LSU.
Boy that LSU home economics degree must be rigorous.

Almost all of the country's top leadership in government and corporate commerce were educated in law, business, or the social sciences and humanities.

If you want to prepare and train for leadership, getting an electrical engineering or astronomy degree is not the ideal way to go about it.

Trump loves the uneducated. Says the guy who brags about going to University of Pennsylvania.

Of course not.
School does nothing to teach the nebulous “leadership “. That’s acquired or it comes naturally.

I accept your offhand confession that STEM majors typically are not found in the nation's top leadership positions.

They like data.

Woodrow Wilson was president of Princeton.

Wikipedia says he studied history and political philosophy.

Leadership starts with being able to speak well, write well, and having good cultural, political, and social awareness.

Getting an oceanography degree is not the ideal way to kick off that project.

It is funny watching people who never went to college declare how it should operate.

Our future students will devolve into shallow careerists who risk becoming outdated in a few years because of rapidly changing tech innovations. Without liberal arts, students will lack the cultural awareness and critical thinking skills to adapt to and understand the fast-changing job markets of the future. They’ll also lack the social, cultural and historical knowledge to be active citizens in a democracy.

There is no creativity without critical thinking and no critical thinking without creativity.

Agree. Maybe we should stop calling non-STEM subjects "liberal arts." The word "liberal" always causes RWers to go into instant spasms. What about Life Skills/Enhancement?

If one likes to crunch data, by all means get a mechanical engineering or chemistry degree.

But honestly, you are going to learn more about the human condition, politics, and business strategy by reading Shakespeare, the Federalist Papers, and Sun Tzu than you ever will from physics textbooks. A background for leadership doesn't involve expertise in number crunching.

Exactly what Reagan meant with this quote:
“ The best minds are not in government. If any were, business would steal them away.”

Business does steal them away at a much higher level of pay; especially those from the regulatory agencies. Many become lobbyists.

Liberal Arts enrollments are plummeting now that they were murdered and turned into WOKE training.....there is no value because those seeking a WOKE credential do better by getting a grievance study degree.
