Wouldn't The Planet Be Better Without An Israel?

That comment isn't even from this thread is it? How am I supposed to acurately reply if I can't find your comment which I was replying to?

From what little memory I have of my post, I do know that I responded to what I thought you meant. If your message was not clear, that doesn't mean I built a stupid strawman. It simply means I didn't understand you. Perhaps you should write in a clearer manner.

What? I quoted the post you made about me in this thread. You imagine that I supported some wars, assuming something about me that you simply brought out of fantasy. That is directly a straw man. Now, let's start this again. Do you want to rethink your statement or do you want to continue "arguing" with your fantasy? If you are here to discuss then I imagine you would want to know what I think about something, and I believe that you have been here long enough to know what I think of the wars you presume to give me an opinion about.

Tell me again, what is my opinion on the wars you referred to in the post of yours I quoted?... If you don't know it, then you really should shut up rather than trying to imagine me an opinion.

No country can be stupid enough to realize they would be anialated by the rest of the world if they were to attack using nuclear weapons. They just want the leverage to exort money, like N. Korea and Pakistan have done. In my opinion.

Yes, Rana, no country, but it only takes one insane individual to launch a missile, and with 40 virgins waiting for them in heaven, a great many of them have already thrown their own lives away. This is why the far right is so terrified of Islam and is attempting genocide.

So far, no individuals have nuclear weapons and the only way to keep that from happening is for all nations to get rid of nuclear materials. It is not going to happen, therefore, there might well be a time when an insane individual or group acquires nuclear material and uses it.

OK, here is what started this. First, I appologise for thinking it was from a different thread. I am blown away with work responsiblities at the moment, to the point of physical exhaustion and it is taking a toll mentally as well.

Yeah, everything would be better if everybody thought exactly like you do, because then there'd be no war and we'd all live in blissful peace so that we can all worship equal outcome laws that force us all into mediocrity and if you don't like it we'll just put you into free speech zones where you cannot effect others. Thanks for providing that clarity. Very helpful.

You don't know me well if you believe you've made an actual point about me here. You may want to actually know what I think before deciding to build stupid straw men based on fantasy accounts of what you imagine I think.

Upon reading this, my thoughts are as follows:

1. I agree with Haiku to a tee and don't see anything he said as hyperbole.
2. I can only assume that your response to him is so sarcastic that I completely misunderstood what you said. Remember please that the written word does not translate sarcasm well.
3. I have no idea what your feelings on war are, mine are that war is a no longer needed tool, solely used these days for profit and population controll. I would like to assume that your view is similar, except that you reject the concept that the west is commiting genocide in the ME. Because of your rejection of our clear and obvious ongoing genocide, your views are obviously tainted by whatever causes you to side with today's conservatives.

These are my true and honest thoughts. If you disagree, it is not required that you acuse me of building stupid strawmen. You could merely point outwhere and why you disagree.

Several points I would like to address.

Some posters have used Israel's possession of nukes as a justification for Iran, or anyone else, to also have them.
Unless I've overlooked it, I don't believe Israel has ever used them or threatened to use them, in an attempt to remove another country from being in existence.

Iran has said, several times, that Israel has no right to exist and that they should be eliminated. Couple that with what seems to be a prevailing thought process that seems to have no problem in dying, as long as you kill your "enemy"; does tend to add the possibllity that the ruling party of Iran might just have no qualms about going down in history and the ones who did eliminate Israel, even if it meant the annilation of their own country.

Let's consider for a moment, what would happen if Iran did launch a missle at Israel.
First the response time is virtually nil. Meaning that the ability to launch a anti-missle is next to impossible. The distance is to close for an effective measure; as opposed to the US, where we have a slightly longer time before a missle would reach us.
This could mean that if Iran does launch against Israel, that Israel's only reply would possibly be an immediate counter launch in a last ditch retaliation.
Or what is probably more likely, would be that a squadren of Israeli fighter pilots would fly directly into the path of the missle and sacrifice themselves. This of course would cause the missle to explode over a foreigh country, which would ignite further hatred of Israel.

I hope I'm wrong; but I think that there does exist a good chance that Iran might actually think they could launch against Israel, completely destroy them, and all that would happen is that the west would just shake a finger at them and tell them how bad they were.
If Iran does launch, then we may just see the start of the nuclear winter that's been talked about.

Another part of this, is what is referred to as a "dirty bomb" being attempted to be smuggled into Israel or at the very least set off at their border. Such an act would not cause as much damage; but once it's discovered where the material originated, there would be retaliation.

Bottom line:
There is a difference between those who have nuclear capability and those who have it and have threatened to destroy another country.

But then; there are those who will continue to blame this entirely on Israel and will give a pass to the other side.

I am pretty sure that if Iran aquires a nuke, one insane person may beable to launch it.

This must mean that suicide bombers are just misunderstood and are really looking for some positive attention. :palm:

'Wiped off the Map' – The Rumor of the Century

(snip)

According to legend, Iran's president has threatened to destroy Israel, or, to quote the misquote, "Israel must be wiped off the map." Contrary to popular belief, this statement was never made.

(snip)

The Actual Quote:

So what did Ahmadinejad actually say? To quote his exact words in Farsi:

"Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad."

That passage will mean nothing to most people, but one word might ring a bell: rezhim-e. It is the word "regime." pronounced just like the English word with an extra "eh" sound at the end. Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase "rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods" (regime occupying Jerusalem).

So this raises the question.. what exactly did he want "wiped from the map"? The answer is: nothing. That's because the word "map" was never used. The Persian word for map, "nagsheh" is not contained anywhere in his original Farsi quote, or, for that matter, anywhere in his entire speech. Nor was the western phrase "wipe out" ever said. Yet we are led to believe that Iran's president threatened to "wipe Israel off the map." despite never having uttered the words "map." "wipe out" or even "Israel."

Thanks for proving that you know less than nothing about modern warfare.

Perspective Darla.
My comments were to Dicks, so put what I said in that perspective.

Second, consider the source. (me)

Third, I agree with you, and my only defense is my first defense, that my comments were directed at Dix.

Oh yeah, I get that. And my last comment was meant as what I was thinking when I read SF's "HOW DARE YOU..." rant. Not directed at you.

Well, I see from the discussion that I skew a bit to the right of most of my liberal friends on this issue.

I finally found something I skew a bit to the right on! To be clear, a bit...I mean, I think I expressed my views clearly. I do not support Israel and would not die for Israel, and I despise righties who are eager to send our youth to die there. I always feel, hey, I have an idea, send your kids!

But bottom line; the fewer countries who have nukes the safer people of the world are. That is my opinion and I do disagree with some of the other posts on this.

My view is the fewer weapons the world possesses, the better off for humankind. I think it is an attitude more prevelant in women than men, but that is just my opinion.

So it is your belief that the following were never uttered?
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

•“We will witness dismantling of the corrupt regime [Israel] in a very near future.” – (Speech at “World Mosque Week,” quoted by Islamic Republic News Agency) August 2008
•“You should know that the criminal and terrorist Zionist regime, which has 60 years of plundering, aggression and crimes in its file, has reached the end of its work and will soon disappear off the geographical scene.” (Reuters) June 2008
•“The Zionist regime is dying. The criminals imagine that by holding celebrations … they can save the Zionist regime from death. They should know that regional nations hate this fake and criminal regime and if the smallest and briefest chance is given to regional nations they will destroy (it).” (Reuters) May 2008
•“This terrorist and criminal state (Israel) is backed by foreign powers, but this regime would soon be swept away by the Palestinians.” (Ha’aretz) May 2008
•“I warn you to abandon the filthy Zionist entity, which has reached the end of the line. It has lost its reason to be and will sooner or later fall. The ones who still support the criminal Zionists should know that the occupiers’ days are numbered. … Accept that the life of Zionists will sooner or later come to an end.” (Agence France-Presse) January 2008
•“With God’s help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine . . . By God’s will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future.” (FARS news agency) June 2007
•“The Zionist regime is an injustice and by its very nature a permanent threat. Whether you like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation. The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm.” (Conference at Tehran) April 2006

Other Iranian Leaders who have called for Israel’s destruction:

•“I am convinced that with every day that passes Hezbollah’s power increases, and in the near future we will bear witness to the disappearance of this cancerous bacterium, Israel, by the Hezbollah’s fighters.” General Mohammad Ali Jaafari, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, February 2008
•“With this anger, the certain death of the Zionist regime had been brought forward.” Top Iranian military advisor General Yahya Rahim Safavi, February 2008
•“Iran’s position, which was first expressed by the Imam [Khomeini] and stated several times by those responsible, is that the cancerous tumor called Israel must be uprooted from the region.” Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, December 2000

It was a simple question, which even you would be able to respond to.

Is it your belief that those words were never uttered?

I'm sorry, but your simple say-so is not worth my 'believing', no. You've destroyed your own credibility here so it is unreliable and only idiots would take your posts at face value.

Provide proof that is verifiable, then we'll talk.

Speculation on your part, sorry. The same fear as been stated with each nation that acquires nuclear capabilities.

I am sorry too.

These are people who mutilate their daughters sex organs, and send their sons to die with explsoives strapped about their bodies.
They consider women to be their possesion, to rape and kill at will.
They do not value life as we in the west do.

I do not believe Iran can safely pocess nukes.

His quotes can be countered with quotes from Israelis against the Palestinian people and other Arab nations, the hate runs just as deep, and the wish for their destruction just as prevelant.
