Hey Neanderthals! Guess Who's Got a New TV Show?

I know, but it was still fucked up and wrong. My grandmother started a huge shit-storm in our house when I was a kid because she had a meltdown when she found me playing with my black Barbie doll. I was like 7 or 8.
you kept playing with the black barbie, right?

let me get this right:

bijou is saying that humans should not use tools to subdue nature or to hunt for food? that we should only use our hands to live on the world, no tools? or does this only apply to hunting?

if so and you believe in evolution, we would never have evolved past cave man, heck, not even cave man as he utilized weapons.

what exactly are you saying bijou?

You are allowed to use your teeth!!

Reality TV has become a long serious of train wrecks. The stars are individuals most people try to avoid contact with.

Palin would have been more successful if they hadn't put on an act for the cameras.

Again. I'll speak slowly this time. It. Isn't. The. Tools. That. I. "Sing". Praises. Of... It. Is. The. Brains. We. Have. Evolved.

We are an animal and part of nature. That you want to pretend otherwise doesn't change that fact. Removing yet another predator from the chain will not benefit animals the way you think it will. We can't keep removing predators and think it makes the animals lives any better. Predation is part of the natural cycle, one that mankind has taken part in for quite some time. Removing one of the most successful predators only guarantees disease and horrible death.

Damo's a vegetarian, though I haven't seen him own it since this old poster called him a homosexual and an America-hater for it. The guy was dead serious too.

Anyway, I think Damo has become a self-hating vegetarian.

Are you suggesting you've done anything but that? 8 pages of this thread is you saying "I'm right and you're wrong, and that's the end of the discussion". Why the fuck I ever took you of my Ignore List, I have no idea. You're a terrible human being and I wish nothing but misery and suffering upon you and all who you love.

What a wonderful "moderator". Wishing death on people and their families, putting posters on IA, insulting people who have no recourse to put him on IA because you can't put a mod on IA.

Good job with this pick guys! Worst mod ever.

Trust me, I know more about that than I care too. The facts are that eating LOTS of red meat over a long period of time can raise your risk of colon rectal cancer significantly but even that risk is far smaller than the risk of colon rectal cancer from obesity and lack of exercise (not to mention the risk to your over all health). Studies have also shown that vegans have higher rates of colon rectal cancer and death than the general population. The risk of colon rectal cancer from eating moderate amounts of red meat is very low. In fact studies have shown that eating grass fed beef in combination with dairy products are about the only known source of conjugated linoleic acids and conjugated linoleic acids are the only known fatty acids accepted by the National Acadamy of Science as exhibiting consistant anti-tumor properties at levels as low as 0.25 to 1% of total fats.

I'd like to see those studies. As far as too many green vegetables being bad for you, that's theoretical and not real-world. You'd have to only eat spinach with no other vegetables, and you'd have to eat it every day in large quantities, and then it could possibly negatively affect your ability to absorb calcium. I read one story a while ago about a woman who had no health insurance (important because this never would have happened in a decent country filled with decent people holding decent values) suffering from diabetes. She had read Bok Choy helped alleviate symptoms. She ate 3 pounds of raw bok choy a day and ended up in the hospital. You'd have to do something pretty f'ing crazy like that in order to have your health be negatively impacted by vegetables.

Also, regarding obesity and lack of exercise causing cancer...have you read the latest studies? They are very compelling. They are showing that it's fat in your liver that elevates you risk for all of these diseases including cancer. And that thin people who don't exercise have fatty livers, and fat people who do exercise don't. Obese people who exercise regularly do not have any higher risk for early death. Thin people who do not exercise do have a higher risk of an early death. It has little to do with weight, other than the obvious correlation that the more you exercise the less likely you are to be obese. It's all exercise - cardio. Cardio is everything. Brain health, heart health, lower risk of cancer, it's everything. So the bottom line is even if you can't lose weight when you exercise (maybe you eat more because you're hungrier, whatever) doesn't matter. Just Do It really is the key.

I think it's good news for people who struggle to lose weight, can't, and just give up. Don't give up if you want to live. It really is about your health not about your looks.

Hunting? It's one of the greatest sports there is. It's so primal you can't help but but being connected. If the harvesting food aspect of it bothers you try hunting with a camera. It takes just as much skill and is just as rewarding.
What a Gaylord. Hunting is not sport. It's killing of innocent animals by dorks to pathetic to play sports and to ugly for hot chicks.

I think this is incredibly stereotypical, insulting, reductive, and possibly homophobic...but I can't deny it perfectly describes every hunter I ever personally knew. To be clear, there haven't been many of them. It's not like I hang in those crowds.

But I've known several.

Wasn't trying to impress the remedial English teacher, but slamming the Neanderthals.

if you're talking today, you're right about food, but not about predators. i actually tried to go vegan, but i missed certain 'meat' products like eggs, fish and chicken. i do not eat pork and rarely beef. in fact, i'm trying to eat more tofu as i find it easier to digest than chicken and it has about the same protein value.

that said, if evolution and the cave man theory is true, we would never have evolved beyond that, but for tools of death as you reference. are you speakign only of modern society?

just out of curiosity, do you wear leather? i know a vegan who wears no leather and tries to avoid it if possible. she has a great cafe wear i live and makes great vegan food.

No, I do not wear or buy leather, nor fur (obviously), wool, any other animal hides, or silk. Additionally, I won't buy or use items containing animal products, and as much as possible, avoid any products that were tested on animals. Because animal products are practically everywhere, it's hard to avoid anything that hasn't exploited them directly or indirectly. But Veganism is becoming quite widespread and there are more cruelty-free alternatives than ever now.

I've been vegan for 7 years now; prior to that I was mostly vegetarian, other than the once-in-a-while trip to the sushi bar, etc. No one enjoyed a steak more than I did. It's an ethical choice for me and because of that, I don't 'miss' my prior diet at all.

No worries, Darla. His sentiments about me hurt about as much as gnat shit. :)

I think that every vegetarian and vegan I know made the same ethical choice. I never did...I was just born this way kind of. As a child I "dissected" my meat as my mom always put it. Because I was always grossed out by fat and veins etc. I stopped eating hotdogs (I cannot even believe anyone eats those things) very early on, by time I was 10. Sausages shortly afterwards. By the time I was 15 I cut out the last meat I was still eating - chicken. It all just grossed me out. It's flesh. Period. Gross. I don't eat eggs or drink dairy, and as of the past year I have stopped eating any kind of ice cream. I doubt I would ever go full-vegan because I do love good cheeses. And I do still eat things with eggs baked into them, just not eggs like scrambled, ech. These days I do feel satisfaction that my vegetarianism is good for the environment. And I am very happy about the health benefits. But I never made a choice. It's weird.

I know a couple of people like you for whom it was always 'gross' to eat flesh. Good for you! Most of my friends still eat flesh, but usually not when they're with me, though I've never asserted that they should change in my presence. I do encourage all my friend that if they simply eat 'less' animal products, it is progress and much appreciated.

The notion that veganism is an 'irresponsible' choice, as has been asserted on this thread, is factually inaccurate. Environmental impacts due directly to factory-farming of livestock for the meat and dairy industry bear out that veganism is good for the planet.

How many obese people do you know who exercise regularly? As for green vegetables, the main risk there is hypervitaminosis if you eat to much of them. Though I agree in principle, exercise and fitness are about living well and not about how hot you look in a little black dress. I mean I work out for two hours a day for years and I still look silly in that damned dress!

Oh yes you have. There's all sorts of hunting predators where you live. They just have smaller guns and drive BMW's. ;)
