A good example of why people are screaming for HC reform.

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
Last month I went for a physical. Just a garden variety annual physical. The GP does a general physical, BP, blood, ekg and says there's a little blip on my ekg, he doesn't think it's serious but thinks maybe he should send me to the cardiologist. So every step along the way I'm asking "How much is this going to cost?". I'm told "Don't know for sure but since it's a physical with out a diagnosis it shouldn't cost you much, your insurance should pick up most of it. Never once to I get told "Total cost is going to be X dollars.".

So I go see the cardiologist. He does a BP and an EKG. Say's theirs a blip on it that he can't even point out to me on the cardiogram it's so small. He want's to do a stress test. Again "how much is this going to cost" I get the same BLAH, BLAH, BLAH and no straight answer to my question.

So this week I get the Bill and for going over to a cardiologist and for literally putting me on a treadmill for 10 minutes with a blood pressure cup and a heart rate monitor they charged my ass $2500!!

Some fucking stress test. I read the bill and my heart started beating faster than when I did the stress test. What a fucking racket. How do they get away with this shit? They're the only mother fuckers I know who can bill you for a service and not tell you what that service is going to cost you.

Did your insurance pay it? Are you saying it cost you 2,500 out of pocket?

How much of that was out of your pocket?

And thats the whole point of the deep pockets payer system.....they will charge what ever traffic will bear......
If you grocery store sold apples at 10 dollars each how many apples do you think they would sell.....right, NONE. They would have to price the apples at some cost that
the customer would be able to pay or not sell any.....same thing with health care and everything else in a capitalist system.....
When someone else pays the freight, they will charge whatever that someone else is willing to pay.....
If you were paying out of pocket, they would have no patients and no income at all until they lowered their prices to some level that the people could afford...or go
out of business.....thats the problem with the system, where others pay the bill and not the consumer directly....and we are the ones to blame for it....

There is no incentive to compete for patients by lower prices.....the insurance or government pays because its a co-op of people paying....shared poverty......not the consumer....

If the government allowed you a $3000 rebate on your new car come Monday...that car price would immediatly rise by that 3000 dollars by Tuesday....

I hear you! It is crazy! That cost is ridiculous!

No, my out of pocket will be $1400. My point being I never once, and I asked and asked and asked, was given a straight answer to the question "How much will this cost?"

No I understand that. And that's a lot of money to have to pay out of pocket anyway. But yeah I know they don't tell you shit. I hope you got good results? Or does a good result cost more?

A car maker that makes 15 different models of cars has some that have a profit margin that is higher than other models....at the end of the day, those higher
profits on those models subsidize the lower profits of the other models......its the same with patients......
Some pay absolutely nothing for care and the others have to make up that difference to pay the nurses, doctors, janitors, aides, heat, water, taxes, snow removeal, etc...
the list is endless....

Medicine should not be for profit.

Bravo has no idea of the concept of not-for-profit. There's thousands of hospitals in the country that thrive as non-profits.

We need insurance companies to follow suit.

good lord you are an idiot. how would insurance companies survive being non profit?

You mean the folks who got Obama elected? How would they fund his campaign?

Its the craziest system in the world.

3 years ago I went in for a comprehensive physical. EKG, EEG, half a dozen tubes of blood, prostate exam, treadmill, all the bells and whistles. I was there for just over 4 hours.

The diagnosis I got from the Dr? "You need to lose a little weight and quit smoking".

Fuck, the parking lot attendant could have told me that. I had a spare tire around my middle and a pack of cigs in my shirt pocket, so any idiot could have made the same diagnosis. I ended up only paying $55, but I hate to think how much my insurance company paid.

That sucks Mott. At my recent VA appointment they threw pills at me (Ibprufen) when I told them that my knee had been getting worse since my last visit (as in walking isn't fun and I've skipped the gym for two months).

AMA is a cartel, they let in about half of the students who should qualify!
Hence create a shortage and you get a high price.

I'm sorry you don't appreciate the best healthcare system out there.

May I suggest you get your care elsewhere to make room for more deserving and appreciative vets?
