Religen is a primative form of Pholosophy....

Its the same thing as when all official communication with the Catholic Church and all Church services were done in Latin. If you were not educated you were out, it was an intentional method of seperating the educated from the uneducated. It was eletist.

Correct v. incorrect spelling is truely a modern invention, in the past all spelling was done creativly and I think, at least in informal written word, it should still be. Correct spelling comes from the puratanical idea that everything is either wrong or right with no inbetween.

If you get your point across, you spelled it correctly.

Not exactly - the Mass began in Greek, which was a universal language, and then switched to Latin when it became more prevalent. It remained in Latin because of the universality of the Church, wherein a Mass could be conducted anywhere in the world by any cleric. Also, an entire tradition was spawned utilizing Latin chant and customary forms. If you've ever gotten to attend a Tridentine Mass, you will notice that it is an experience which is unequaled in the modern world. I wish the old customs would come back (especially the chant), and that the only changes would be the spoken liturgy, but I'm probably the only person who has ever thought up that compromise.

I would love to see the beauty of a Tridentine Mass, where can one go to see that?

I understand the party line about when official communications were done in Latin, much Church Communication still is, but it was also an effort to keep information from the uninitiated, to keep it within the club.

It was a huge deal when some scientiests began to publish in "common" languages. The Vadican was appaled and threatened to imprison the authors.

I'm not sure, but I would bet you've got options. Just do a Google search for Una Voce or the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, and that should help.

I think the Church was worried that radicals would deliberately change stuff so as to manipulate people.

Also, there is pride involved. I have grown up involved in the Catholic charity the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which is headquartered in France. All official documents are first published in French, and then sent out into "lesser" tongues so that all of us can get on the sane page. :D

I'm sure the practice served more that one purpose, but you are nieve if you believe control and elitism were not part of it.

Jarod, don't be an idiot....Latin is hardly a secret language used to keep information "within the club".....that is just plain stupid ......
Its not 1013, its 2013 and every language can be translated to inform those that have any interest in whatever the subject.

and I am sure you are a Catholic basher in particular and a Christian basher when it suits your purpose.....

Do you think the Mass was said in Latin to keep the congregation from participating and in the dark.....?

I was talking about the past, not today.

And in the past, Latin was THE language for all practical purposes.....and no one could prevent translation into any other language.....no matter what you imagine.
Who the hell would even know it or who it was done by when and if it happened.....
Latin Mass has been around since the 5th century and maybe eariler...

Ugh, you are wrong. Only the very educated upper class had latin for many many years. And powerfull interests kept it that way as a means of controlling information and keeping it limited to an elite few.
