what if she is mentally unstable and you don't know that?
I have to JUST TRUST you ?
Do you believe that there is some centralized system that connects to your shrink that makes it so you can't buy a gun and HIPAA laws be damned?
what if she is mentally unstable and you don't know that?
I have to JUST TRUST you ?
then explain why I can't buy a damned machine gun built in 2010, if your regulations are completely without teeth and ineffective. In effect it is absolutely what we have. I know we have some regulations, but they are completely without teeth and ineffective. We could make laws that would seriously limit this type of needless death, we simply, as a group, would rather have less inconvenience when we want to buy or keep guns.
I have never owned a gun
NO one needs a gun.
people lived without guns for many many years
Nobody needs a bathtub. Ask people on this forum the last time they took a bath? I shower.
take every single one of these and test them out on every police officers and military members weapons for 5 years. see how it works out. if it's effective, then maybe we can talk.Plenty, and you are without imagination if you cant some up with some yourself. Compare cars to guns, you cant buy a car (a necessity to live in most parts of America) without all kinds of safety features designed to protect children. We could require more intricate safety locks on guns, we could require fingerprint technology before a safety is released, we could require technology that bullets that have been in a chamber for more than two min's are deactivated. We could make the triggers more difficult to pull, so they require more strength and a 3 year old typically has.
These are just a few that I came up with on my own in a matter of a few seconds.
then why don't we read about that every day like we do gun shots?
then you'll be petitioning your democratically elected representatives to start taking guns from cops, right? since NOBODY needs a gun.NO one needs a gun.
Rend flesh? Did we fall into a Shakespeare play here? Shooting is an Olympic sport. It's also a widespread sport outside the Olympics. The ability of a gun to "rend flesh" is also what makes it so valuable at preventing crime. Believe it or not (I'm sure Not will be your choice), guns prevent crimes hundreds of times a day, and almost always without ever being fired. Just brandishing a gun stops crimes before they ever happen in most cases. I know a first hand story of same, and I believe in one case, my gun being accidentally displayed by the wind blowing up my shirt, almost certainly prevented--or maybe just delayed--a crime. Now Im NOT asking that guns ( who only use is to rend flesh) be banned.
Im asking for background checks for mental illness for one.
Why is that so right wing head exploding?
Bathtubs need security devices. Adult fingerprint scanner necessary to turn on water. If finger leaves scanner for more than 10 seconds, an automatic lift engages to get a kid out of the water. Temp sensor with automatic ice dump if too hot. Mandatory locked cover when not in use by an adult. And, of course, unannounced government inspections to be sure safety devices have not been disabled.Kids drown in tubs. What about the CHILDREEEEENNNN????!!!SHIFTplusONE!11
If you can't afford a bathtub safe then you can't afford a bathtub!
background checks already exist.
Another case of a tragedy that could have been avoided or minimized. An open gun safe is not a safe. Mentally disturbed kid, and his mother leaves unsecured guns out. Too late to prosecute her, since her drugged son killed her first. If the principal of the school had a Glock in a locked drawer, she could have been a hero instead of a victim. Nut cases like Lanza always cave when confronted with deadly force. One shot from her gun, and he'd have run or maybe even shot himself then, rather than later. Instead we make teachers be martyrs. Then we pass more laws against law abiding citizens. AR-15s? More people are murdered every year in the U.S. with baseball bats than with all rifles (source: FBI "Crime in the United States 2012"), of which AR's are only a portion.Yes they do, and the guns used at Sandy Hook were bought by a person who passed every one of them and from all accounts had gun safes to keep the guns in. Some things are just tragically unpreventable but we still want to limit freedoms with knee-jerk, reactionary legislation that limits the freedoms of the law abiding.

No one mentions that in 100% of mass murders in modern times, the perps were either on, or previously on, behavior altering drugs. When I was a kid, it was easier to get a gun. You could buy a rifle at the Western Auto store or Sears. However, behavior problems were not treated with drugs, and guess what? One almost never heard of mass murders. Now we have expensive and punitive gun control laws, with kids on prescription mind-altering drugs, playing video games with nonstop killing and watching movies where heroes and criminals alike are nonstop killers. But then Hollywood and the drug companies are big political contributors, so they can't even share in the responsibility for what happens, nor can absentee parents.

Yes, and all those things would be both prohibitively expensive and of questionable reliability--like most modern technology. I won't even trust a laser sight--just when you need it, it fails. Fingerprint safety? I just was attacked, and my hand is bloody, so the reader doesn't recognize my fingerprint. I'm dead, thanks to technology. And disabling a round in the chamber after two minutes? That's contrary to the way one carries a self defense handgun. Always a round in the chamber, otherwise a gun is really just a club.exactly, which is why Desh and others on the left cannot articulate what it is that would prevent irresponsible behavior. Jarod, to his credit, did try, but his solution of fingerprint/biometric security is not a technology that is currently available (at least from what I have heard).

that is likey the most decent thing I have ever seen you post

and we also have the power as a people to change that when we find a better solution
