Look I’m being objective here. I’m not taking a side (though if I were my bias is for a Market economy with strong liberal Democratic Civil Institutions.) here to make a point.

My point being there is ample historical evidence of both socialism and capitalism both succeeding and failing and the ideological arguments are silly cause the are at odds with the facts.

The questions you are not asking are under what circumstances and conditions does either succeed or fail?

Here’s an excellent article on the question. Their is no doubt that China is a socialist State despite its adoption of market principles The largest companies in China are all owned and controlled by the State and even truly privately owned companies, like Ali Baba, have close ties to the Government and as the article points out that under Ji China is reversing course towards more socialism and not less.

How can the government dictating your life be a higher standard of living? Tells me those that think it is admit they aren't capable of doing for themselves and have to let the government do for them.

Actually, it is. You Democrats are nothing but Communists in pretty colorful packaging. America was founded with Conservative principles like individual liberty, private property rights, natural rights, and so forth. But to the Communist Left, that is all anathema.

I've always understood socialism to mean the government owns and controls the means of production. That's not the case in the US and never will be.
