What a blatantly ridiculous thread.

I suppose the only reason it is apparently appropriate to invoke the dead and wounded are to 1) point out that we have a volunteer armed forces so the dead and wounded merely got what they knew was coming and 2) to argue in favor of keeping troops in harms way so we get more dead and wounded.

And I guess things like this are OK:

And really, the wounded Marine in question had been quite visible in the press since suffering his injuries. I mean, the picture in question is from the fucking Associated Press. So i guess Willie is also dissociating himself from news now, too?

No no no. I am CERTAIN that Johnny Mac meant to gain no political points by standing next to this guy with hands over heart. Hell I bet he didn't even think the press would be there and there was NO WAY this would turn into the perfect photo op. NOW WRL blast your hero de jure for doing this to this young soldier! I double dog...ah never mind you are the biggest republican hack on the board.
 
Are you guys possibly this dense, the difference is he gave his permission to be there with McCain.
That's been what I've been saying this whole thread, there are plenty of anti war vets you can use, but STOP using ones who never gave you permission to use their pain for your political purposes. That is dishonorable and despicable.

No. Tell me how you know. How do you know that he wanted McCain using it for his political purposes. What Darla obviously meant when she posted the pic was that if you join your government could force you to go to another country and fight for another peoples freedom that they participate in very little if at ALL. And in the process you might get killed but even fucking WORSE is you might not get killed right away. YOu might get horribly burned for someone elses freedom that they are unwilling to earn for themselves and then a bunch of right wing hacks will pretend that he was fighting for MY freedom instead of Iraqi freedom. Even though they TOLD us it was operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

The marine obviously didn't have any problem suiting up and going to a press conference to get his purple heart pinned to him. That to me is a little bit more than tacit permission to publish his photograph.

I met a guy who looked a lot like this, but he was not the same man, this was in NYC. A right wing group was staging a pro-war counter protest. It was probably the most disturbing thing that ever happened to me. He was definitely mentally unbalanced. Well, who wouldn't be. I think that all of the beautiful young people who are thinking of joining the military at this particular time- a time when they will end up in Iraq - should see this. It is only fair, and nobody knows that if these young men had seen someone else like this, they would have still entered. There is a book set in World War One, called Johnny got his gun, that tells a story that is happening to human beings today. This argument is nothing new. I find it greatly disturbing that so many find it acceptable to live in our embedded, sterilized society, and call that supporting the troops. I don't even know what it means.

Here's a joke for you. When Bush used the bodies of dead fire fighters, which unlike our soldiers, were permitted to be shown in caskets being carried out of the rubble, for a campaign commericial, and could not have possibly gained their permission on account of them BEING FUCKING DEAD, how was that different?

Now, I know you're nothing but a whining, two bit hack, so I know that it is different. But i want to watch you tap dance, so get moving and explain it.
