Crowds flock to reopened Jacksonville beaches as Florida hits record coronavirus case

Well that was predictable.

Will Jacksonville see a spike in new cases in a couple of weeks?

That remains to be seen.

It is expected that after so long of being cooped up, that when given a chance, people will flock to the beaches. Give it some time and the crowds will taper off. Also, the way the phot is taken it appears that people are closely packed. But if you look carefully, you see couples and families together, and gaps between the groups. With a nice breeze blowing, odds of transmission under those circumstances are low.

But the numbers will tell.

It is troubling that nobody has a mask on. Of course, how could you if swimming?

But the general apathy about taking this seriously will be costly. I am concerned that if things are opened back up again too soon, and people don't take it seriously enough, that we will see a second wave. There may be no national spike in numbers, but the regional numbers would tell a different story.

I'll have to hunt for information on Jacksonville statistics so we can see what their numbers are now and then check back in a few weeks.

It will be measurable soon, and dozens locally there will die. Undetected will be how they spread it and kill thousands.
So much for united we stand.

Yep, I recognize a pattern already. Unabashed willful ignorance and dumbfuckery.

Try to get off that train, new guy. Do something different than the RW tards on this form. Educate yourself before you post.

Thanks for the tip I'll take it under advisement.

Your disabilities are mostly in your head, pathetic creature that you are!

You mean like this guy?:

It is a silly and rash mistake they will likely make a lot of people sick. It is not against the law. If being stupid was against the law, Trump would be in jail. Go on the beach enjoy your waves and virus, your beer and virus and your sun and virus.
You are probably one of the morons who walk outside and ride bikes with a mask on.

Can't breathe in Covid droplets in the outdoors let alone in high winds on a beach, you braindead moron.

You're just a pathetic excuse for a man who's no use or ornament to anyone. I have never denied that I have a low tolerance for fools and exactly what is it I am denying regarding climate. Of course you're unable to tell me as you just spout meaningless bullshit all the time! Care to tell me which of the four Representative Climate Pathways outlined in IPCC AR5 (2013) you think most likely and your reasons why? Of course, you won't, because you don't even understand the question never mind give an informed opinion. Stick to Japanese comics , that's more your level.

The arsehole has flounced off, no big surprise there!

Oh, well I guess doctors don't know anything either in your tomb of a denialist mind. In my head? It's actually with my nerves. Luckily I don't have any degeneration. I've only been on full government verified disability since I was 18. Before that my parents received compensation and Medicaid/Medicare for me.

If I'm pathetic what are you and these anti-lockdown babies that seem so weak that they crumble after a few weeks at home? Think about your words before you slander. It's been a blink of an eye, so have some willpower. Maybe if you grow up you won't enjoy making fun of disabilities of people you don't know anything about.

Why would they decrease?? I would think as summer heats up those beaches will be packed..

Fla does not have an exclusive on stupid either..

They opened a local beach here as well, but it is still cool here but that will change soon + we started isolating sooner... It is the next county over from Santa Clara Co, the worst county in the bay area for the virus, & home to silicon valley...

I read a long article by a guy who did the history of 1917-8 Spanish flu. It followed the same pattern this one is in regards to people getting tired of having to stay home. If you went out the police could fine you. The people bleated about their rights being taken away and pressured politicians to open everything up. After a battle, the authorities relented and opened up. That is when the Spanish flu really took off. We did not get any smarter in a century. The same type people are saying the same stupid shit and it may get ugly again
Trump figures that opening up may risk human lives, but if it works he will get a boost for 2020. He has no trouble risking citizens' lives for such a noble purpose.

OK, I found some statistics.

Jacksonville is in Duval County, Florida.

Duval County has roughly been running about 30 new cases per day.

Florida Covid Statistics

They did reach a high of 58 new cases per day back on April 6, a few weeks after Social Distancing began, but it has not really dropped off that much since. The number of cases per day has fluctuated from 18 to 37 since that one big day tally of 58.

Looking at the graph, it really looks like Jacksonville is actually experiencing another high point in new cases over the last 4 days.

It should be interesting to watch how this turns out for them.

Jacksonville currently has 15 deaths.

Total Tests
262,495
Positive
26,314

I hope it works out well......

Hopefully the various locals will stay cognoscente of health, not just wealth as the ppl start into their summer routines... They can limit access in some places but there are lots of beaches in Fla & Calif & an army couldn't cover much of it.........

I really hope there is no second wave like that, but no one really knows...

Humidity stops most viruses dead, it's now warming up in Florida and the humidity is in the 80s! Same story here in Thailand, only 47 deaths in a population of 69 million. Mind you it probably helped that all Chinese tourists left the country back in February.

However, the MIT study – which looked into global cases of COVID-19 from Jan. 22 through March 21 – came to a more hopeful conclusion.

“The data so far clearly shows that the number of cases for temperatures > 17°C (63°F) and absolute humidity > 9 g/m3 (about 60% relative humidity) is low,” meaning that the virus was not spreading as rapidly in warm and humid climates.

The MIT researchers said 83% of global testing has been done outside the tropics – north of 30 degrees N – where temperatures on average have ranged from 37 degrees F to 63 degrees F, and absolute humidity values ranged from 4 to 9 grams per cubic meter, which is dry air.

Absolute humidity tells us how much actual water vapor is in the air, and this is a key factor in virus transmission, according to the MIT study. Drier climates tend to evaporate the layer of moisture that surrounds a virus when it is expelled by a cough or sneeze. A humid environment would prevent that layer of moisture from evaporating, further preventing exposure.

Absolute humidity values that exceed 10 grams per cubic meters may cause “a slowdown in transmissions,” which MIT found to be the case in such tropical nations as Taiwan, Qatar, Singapore and Australia, all of which have done extensive coronavirus testing per capita.

well I truly hope that is correct & rings true into the fall~no second wave...

I have read that temp & water break it down......... Fla, Louisiana are going to be heating up as the testing is way behind the curve..

Sadly the rural areas, the least capable of dealing w/ this are now coming under siege like the large urban areas & many are not going to be hot & humid for a few months +/-
