Why would any credible intelligent forum have a facility to ban certain users by name from threads- YET HAVE THE OPTION TO IGNORE ANYONE OF THEIR CHOOSING?

Most intelligent forums provide a feature to completely ban trolls and enemies completely from their online experience in the forum.

So this says more about the administration than it does about the Thread banning idiots!

It's one thing to thread ban habitual trolls.

I ban people.

I often have a thread ban list when I start a thread.

I don't allow racists, or haters in.

Does not seem cowardly to me. Like other mature adults who respect social etiquette, it just makes sense to exclude known racists, belligerent bigots, girlish gossipers, and libelers from civilized conversation.

I thread banned his ass so he couldn't shit the place up with his stinking shit.

It is every poster's option to ban as many others as he/she decides. It is an exaggeration to say that anyone here is 'banning everyone.'

I've never put anybody on ' Ignore ' but my reserve thread ban serves useful purposes.
Once you've been a member for some considerable time here you can anticipate the reaction of the forum trolls to any given topic.
Sometimes you might want to investigate a topic with other reasonable members and so you post your ban to eliminate the dross from your thread, the repetitious losers such as Earl, Legion etc, the gross gutter- crawlers, CFM, volsrock etc., the socks and the degenerate contrarians such as the Brit maggot.
At other times you might allow these throwbacks access to your thread in order to make fools of themselves and thus reinforce your points.
They are easy to manipulate . You can also fine-tune your thread-ban, excluding the total assheads , the graphic-swampers, such as Arminius and Truth Deflector along with the overtly insane on occasions but permitting those on your list that you wish to specifically target .
That's how you survive the excesses of JPP- not by ' Ignore ', not by permanent banning, but by putting your trolls to work. They sometimes even bump their own humiliations.

Actually it doesn't. Nothing prevents an open thread from discussing the same things a closed thread is discussing. Where such an open thread exists, running parallel to a closed thread, the closed thread usually dies off pretty quickly.

Banning people only lets them talk about you behind your back. You have accomplished nothing but removing yourself from the conversation.
