I don't know. I was just telling anatta on another thread that I think it's a weird priority w/ a pandemic raging, the economy tanking and racial inequality bubbling over.

I mean, it's amazing how much attention you give this, and how shruggable the other stuff is for you...a "dud."

But to each his own. I'm sure in September you'll get worked up about a few guys kneeling.

It will probably end up saving more than it costs because then we would not have to try as many people, would not have to lock up as many people, would not have to manage as many people on parole and probation, etc.

Ever hear of the school-to-prison pipeline? It is a disturbing national trend wherein children are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems. Many of these children have learning disabilities or histories of poverty, abuse, or neglect, and would benefit from additional educational and counseling. Prison is one of the most costly methods of providing education and counseling there is. We tax payers are getting a bad deal. Just one aspect of a bigger picture.

That was the attempt to explain things away. The real reason it's being removed is the same reason all of these statues are being removed. Every cultural revolution requires destruction of history and heritage. Once that process is complete, it's easier to brainwash people. For the Chinese, it was Maoism. For us, it's progressivism.

History was still accessible for the Chinese under Mao, at first. It didn't take long for that to change.

In the American context, it won't be erasing history so much as it is distorting it. That begins with applying presentism to all historical figures.

Actually, probably Muslims. Muslims were a lot closer and during the colonial era they were active sailing around off North Africa. Thomas Jefferson [canceled] knew all about it. It was only a matter of time before they discovered the Trade Winds and road them right up to the shores of the ‘USA’.

Honestly though, with the direction that the left is taking the West, maybe things would have turned out better by now if China or Muslims had conquered North America instead of Europeans.

If China had never become Communist and had conquered the New World back in the 1600s, they would have probably evolved into a more powerful version of Taiwan's culture. That's preferable to a lot of what the West represents now. Their left isn't as insane as ours.

They aren't. Multiple studies have shown that blacks are targeted in direct proportion to the crimes committed by their community. So, it's not disproportionate at all.
