A bunch of WWII veterans came home and discovered their city, Athens, Tennessee hijacked by corrupt thug politicians trying to rig and steal the election by manipulating the ballots (like Democrats just did on a massive, unprecedented scale)...and responded by taking up arms and storming the vote counting facility and forcing the votes to be counted where everyone could see. They literally launched an armed rebellion and overthrew the government. By the time the National Guard got to them, it was all over. The police and Mayor were locked up in the jail, all the weapons they borrowed from the armory were cleaned and locked back up, and instead of prosecuting them, they built a monument to them.
