I'm of two minds on this. First, goddamned right, put her on the 20. That she comes in at the expense of a racist, slave-owning southerner like Andrew Jackson is even better.

On the other hand, Harriet was chattel. Property. Capital. Not sure how much I like her now being a symbol of capital itself. Maybe it's ironic? Maybe it's demeaning? Not sure. She deserves better. An entire state should be named for her.

Southern plantations/cotton/other crops? Black people. They were THE engine of the southern economy. Full stop. To a huge degree they still are (look at the disproportionate number of "essential workers" during the pandemic who are black and brown).

Farms throughout the west and southwest? Mexican-Americans (many of whom owned the land before whites stole it).

Farms throughout the entire country right now? Migrant labor.


Minorities in this country make America go. Who cleaned up the capitol after a bunch of treasonous crackers trashed it? People of color.

Chinese and Mexican labor were similarly treated to slave wages, dangerous conditions, and brutal treatment.

Whites of any nationality suffered nothing CLOSE to that.
