I know what people thought, I was here! More than Katrina being an embarrassing chapter for Bush, I think it marked the moment when Liberals realized they could lie and manipulate the media to project the desired image.

I already said, the guy who headed FEMA was not qualified, and shouldn't have been in that position, and I blame George Bush who appointed him. But that was NOT the reason Katrina was such a clusterfuck, and GWB wasn't the reason either. It started from the local officials in New Orleans, all the way to the Governor of Louisiana, on to the Federal level. The Federal government and FEMA were never intended to be "first responders" in natural disasters! They have always come in AFTER the fact, to help with rescue and clean up efforts. The evacuation planning, the contingency plans for civic operations, and emergency management is the responsibility of the state and local government.

Five days before the hurricane made landfall, Bush was literally PLEADING with the governor of Louisiana to declare a state of emergency and start evacuating people... she refused! The relevant legal point and constitutional point of order, requires the state to officially declare an emergency and 'request' federal assistance! This never happened until the hurricane hit. Three days before the hurricane made landfall, with certain catastrophe pending, and NO action by the state officials, George Bush became the first president in US history, to declare a national disaster area BEFORE the disaster happened. Never before had been done! In fact, a case could be made that Bush overstepped his authority in doing this!

When I look back on what happened in Katrina, I see the Democrat state and local officials FAILING to do what they should have done, FAILING to be even remotely responsible, and I see the left-wing liberal media, casting ALL blame and responsibility onto Bush! You got away with it because people are inherently STUPID!

Tell me about it. Because of the radical left's hatred of Bush, everything was blamed and still is blamed on him.
 
Of course no republicans blamed the recession at the first of Bush's term on Clowntoon did they?

Just a couple years ago every speech was about protecting "sanctity" of things, nowadays they are about fiscal responsibility, enforcing the limits placed on the Feds by the constitution, personal responsibility... All the things that I find good about the party. The same people who wouldn't listen without the "sanctity" portions now aren't just listening, but are getting excited about the winning ideas...

Just because they aren't talking about it doesn't mean that they aren't going to still work to force it down our throats. The only change is right now, your party is being quieter about ruling from the bible. It is still there and always will be. Too many American Jihadists still in your party.

What it means is that the people running will be working towards the portions that I think are where priorities need to lie. I understand that these people will be part of the party, but they do not need to be the central theme of the party, and what I see is the rejection of that.

You seem to fail to mention that though Bush was hated by the radical left, he was despised by the left, the left of center, moderate, right of center and independant voters. He went out of office the most unpopular siting President in US history. Hell even a lot of republicans couldn't stand him and lots of republicans, like myself, left the party becuase of it being dominated by right wing extremist like Bush.
 
Make it the party of Eisenhower again and people will really come. But until I know that you have killed of the virus that is evangelical politics, never, and lots of people feel that way.

Bush was whacking brush and riding his 10 speed around Crawford 5 days before Katrina hit! Hell he was vacationing until a couple days after it hit... then he did a fly over from Air Force 1!
