This is a Macaw. Like many parrots, they are actually a rather intelligent bird. This sort of dance from one is a sign of affection to it's owner. It playing.

These birds can learn to count, properly identifying the number to say given a number of articles in front of it, It can use tools such as sticks and other animal parts, they have excellent color vision, and they make smart and playful pets. They can easily outsmart a cat or a dog and have even been known to tease them.

You don't program a parrot.

They pick up sounds around them and repeat them because that's how they learn to communicate in their own flock. They'll even practice a sound they hear (if they like it) and repeat it to themselves until they get it right.

The best way to teach a Macaw to mimic a sound is to give it a simple sequence and repeat it. You can even put it on an audio player and let 'em hear it awhile. Soon they will try to mimic the sound themselves.

All this is actually a sign of intelligence in a bird.

Not many birds are smarter.

Perhaps this is what they will start doing now! And would have been the only way to have totally prevented this attack!

Do you honestly think that he is the only one who has relatives in the military that has been deployed in Afghanistan with inside information?

MY FAMILY ALSO HAS SOME OF THIS INSIDE INFORMATION FROM MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY THAT SERVED IN AFGHANISTAN, AND IT DOES NOT AGREE WITH EAGLE EYE'S INSIDE INFORMATION!

Huh? EE has a family member who was one of the thousands just rescued from Kabul. I don't know about your family; have you mentioned them before? Are they safely out of there?

Glad that I could help educate you about parrots, who are obviously far brighter than your average Reichwinger. :)

I have a son-in-law that spent 2 tours of duty in Afghanistan. And I have a 2nd nephew that served there as well. Yes, they are safely home and my Son-in-law is out of the military but still in the reserves now.

But, even though both of them are actually Republicans, they agreed that Trump is more to blame for the things that went wrong over there than anything Biden has done. They also agree that Trump set the country up to fail and made the bringing the troops home more difficult because of Trump telling the Taliban and making a pact with them that the Afghans would surrender to them.

And I like birds of all kinds- even Chickens as I used to keep one as a pet when I was a kid. But my use of the term parroting comes from the dictionary's definition of the term.

I don't really know how intelligent all birds are, but I do know chickens are very smart birds- even though they don't talk back much unless you make them mad- and then suddenly they have a lot to squawk about! LOL! I also had a pet duck as a kid- and a blue parakeet that we called Tweety-pie! All she knew how to say was "Hello There"! It was funny because, no matter what you said to her, she just said, "Hello There"!

My father's uncle over in Ft. Worth used to keep Mexican ravens in a huge walk-in cage that he kept out in his huge patio room! And a couple of his ravens could talk up a storm (in English).

I understand that ‘Taliban’ is even kind of a catch all for various Pashtun tribesmen who often ‘switch teams’ depending on who holds the power.

The problem is the idiots in charge didn’t secure the perimeter to the airport. On top of giving up the military airbase at Bagram in favor of the airport at Kabul. With millions of people around it. The incompetence is jaw dropping.

I'm glad your ppl are home and safe! We are beyond grateful for their service.

No offense taken at all about the use of "parrot" as a verb. I always joke around when ppl think that that's an insult, along with "bird brain." Ravens are super awesome, and super smart too.

I too had an African Grey ... and because of that bird I learn about Alex. A very interesting bird. Although mine had no where near Alexs' abilities ... the phone ring was PERFECT as was the call for "mom" that the kids had. I really enjoyed that and there wasn't a thing she could do about it. I know that it made the bird happy to do that. My "male" cockatiel (bright red ear patch) died from being egg bound. The parakeets just used up the newspaper at the bottom of the cage.
