It would appear that the problem then became, that he followed them out of the house and was (shall we say) less then civil.
I don't think I would have been given any time to get my ID once I first refused. I would have been arrested long before this guy was.
Anyway, once they had the ID and went to the porch, you bet. No arrest should have been made hence my (probably punished) in the post you quoted. You don't get to arrest people for being jerks and calling you names. However, I know many people who have been arrested for that, then let go just like this guy. When you grow up with long-hairs the cops do that crap all the time. It isn't racial, it just is. And it is something that would be nice to fix, there's nothing like getting that call from a friend to pick them up.

The article stated he handed him his Harvard ID... which I am guessing did not have his address... When a cop asks you for ID, he is not looking for your school ID card. He is looking for a drivers license or state ID that has your photo and address on it.
Second, the did not arrest him after showing the second ID, they arrested him after he came after them after they had left his house and continued berating them. Again, I would have simply flipped off the racist professor and left if I were them.
But you are a fucking tool to call the cops racist when one of them was black.
