CRT Controversy. Does it really matter what we teach in high school?!

Schools teach about slavery....You'd like "redlining and how banks and justice are institutionally suppressing minorities" taught in school? Just exactly how does that lesson go?;)

That goes in specific college classes at select universities. It is not and has not been part of the national curriculum.

In high school, social studies class was a pain in the ass. It was taking time away from classes that you mention above, with respect to homework and studying for tests.

We were told that learning about history is necessary because it keeps us from repeating mistakes.

How's that working out?

Oddly enough, these days researching history is fascinating.

Probably because it isn't mandatory

I only remember American history being mandatory in highschool.

I took as many history electives as I could cram in. My high school had electives in European history and Chinese history.

There was Western Civilization, but I can’t recall it as mandatory or not.

I am glad I learned grammar and math in high school. But history? Most of it was forgettable bullshit. Can't think of anything worthwhile they taught in history class.

Most of the history I learned was in college or stuff I studied on my own.

The Critical Race Theory seems pretty pointless as a controversy.

BECAUSE OF THE LOUSY TEACHERS PROTECTED BY THE UNIONS, NO MATTER HOW INCOMPETENT.

OR...YOU'RE AN IMBECILE. YOU DECIDE....

If it were actually true that what's taught in high school didn't matter, leftists wouldn't be so over represented in the education field. Leftists BS

Agreed but you're trying to explain this to RWNJ HS dropouts who believe vaccines are the work of Satan and that the Moon landing was faked.

That's what I recall; just American history with a senior class of general world history.

Most of my history classes came in Grad school.

The real problem is the rightys are trying to erase racism and its foul history in America. It would take a couple of generations, and our racist history would be gone.
CRT is about teaching college history people that we have organized, and have institutions that have taken opportunity from blacks for 200 years. Nobody is teaching grade school and high school kids about redlining. They are not taught Jim Crow. They are not taught about voter suppression.
This is typical rightys affixing names and lies to harmless history lessons. Ask your kids what they think about redlining and Jim Crow. They were real and shameful. They are not taught in schools.
Ask them what lynching was.

I always liked history, and took as many history electives as I could in both HS and college

Same here but mine was confined to WWII, and a little WWI, aviation history. I devoured books on it, mostly by Martin Caidin (yes, the Six Million Dollar Man author) and Edward Jablonski.

In the Marine Corps I gained an interest in all Marine Corps history and then, because it caused the most dramatic change in the nature of the Marine Corps, the history of Japan.

Not a whole lot of history, just the basics but historical fiction like Shogan turned me onto James Clavell. Concurrently, I was also interested in Eastern philosophy and religion.

Much is made about the brutality of the Japanese to prisoners. What is not made much about is that, to their way of thinking, duty and honor were everything. To not "die trying", to let oneself be captured alive was an act of disgrace. Cowardice. Why not slap cowards around a little bit?

Now compare that to the Spartans and we'll see the similarities in "life view". LOL

History teaches us what NOT to do in the future and what DOESN'T work and is just as important as math and proper grammar, and most certainly does matter when CRT attempts to promote a false narrative that attempts to re-write history using lies and distortions. :palm:

Aren't they the ones protecting Confederate statues and it's the Lefties seeking to destroy and erase history?

The claim CRT is being taught in K-12 is a lie. Trumpers lie a lot. I know it. You know it. The Trumpers deny it. Time will tell if Truth prevails.
