Social services in the US are atrocious. We have programs, which is better than some countries, but they are so inefficient and ineffective that they're almost worthless in a lot of cases.

Then, in cases of ready availability and affordability, lots of people avoid help because of the personal stigma of mental distress. I'm going to get hate for this, but I am positive, from vast experience, that the US deserves no better than a C grade in terms of being a good place to live and maintaining a functional society.

Agreed on the social stigma aspect. This has been a problem for all of my life with no national push to correct it.

You've heard about Watergate but a previous criminal act before Watergate was breaking into Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office to dig up dirt. Another case from same time period is Senator Thomas Eagleton who was forced to withdraw as the Democratic VP candidate in 1972 when it was revealed he'd been to a psychiatrist.

American society sees mental illness as weakness...mainly because most people are so fucking stupid they only see what's in front of their noses and can't go any deeper.

Regardless, even a computerized annual mental health exam would help identify kids who need it.
