Special interests’ on both sides in health fight
Obama's nailed down agreements with deep-pocketed drug makers

WASHINGTON - As public pitchman, President Barack Obama accuses special interests of fighting to block his health care overhaul. "They run their ads. And let's face it, they scare people," he told one weekend audience.

Yet Obama has spent months assembling a formidable lineup of special interests of his own, an essential element of a plan to remake the health care system and succeed where President Bill Clinton memorably failed.

this is just one of the reasons more and more people do not trust obama....he is dishonest....saying it is bad for repubs, but oh no, when they are on his side....it is a good thing....typical of many liberals on this board

Do you think insurance company "Death Panels" are doing a good job?

You know, the claims adjusters that deny claims, the ones whose bonuses depend on turning down as many claims as possible.

A large number of Americans have health conditions that insurance companies qualify as “pre-existing conditions.” The Death Panels deny them coverage.

12.6 million non-elderly adults (36 percent of those who tried to purchase health insurance directly from an insurance company in the individual insurance market) were in fact denied by the Death Panels because of a pre-existing condition.

Thanks to the Death Panels, 1 in 10 people with cancer could not obtain health coverage, and 6 percent lost their coverage. The Death Panels exclude whole categories of illnesses related to a pre-existing condition. Someone with hay fever could have any respiratory system disease such as bronchitis or pneumonia excluded from coverage by the Death Panels.

When a person is diagnosed with an expensive condition such as cancer, insurance company Death Panels review his/her initial health status questionnaire. Insurance companies can retroactively cancel the entire policy if any condition was missed, even if the medical condition is unrelated, and even if the person was not aware of the condition at the time. Coverage can also be revoked for all members of a family, even if only one family member failed to disclose a medical condition.

There was a great article on CNN yesterday, written by someone who had been high up in the insurance industry, but quit because of the tactics. He talked about how they funnel millions into PR firms, who distribute talking points to talk radio and other beacons of right-wing thought, so that it can disseminate to the masses. He added that they don't care at all about the truth; they care about creating as much misinformation & fear as they can, to scare enough people into opposing things that aren't even being proposed.

So, basically, that's what the admin is up against. It's not tit for tat, because one side is using the money for what is essentially the truth of the bill, and one side is using money for lies & fear. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

stop changing the subject and just admit obama is a hypocrite and is basically making a dishonest argument

Very true. The "special interests" working to promote healthcare reform aren't doing it in a similar way as the opposition. It's apples and oranges. The implication spurt is making is that both sides are on equal footing here - they are not.

He wasn't anonymous. There are lots of people just like him who have said the same thing. There's very little doubt as to the tactics insurance companies use to defeat this stuff. You're trying to argue something that isn't up for debate.

^lol^

you're not biased to the information you recieve from the special interest groups....or should i be dishonest like barry and say they are just interest groups....

face it...obama said they were bad, he did not say what they did was bad, only that using such groups was bad....another deflection and red herring to take away from obama's hypocrisy

Nah - he had his pic right next to the article. And I didn't need to read it to know about it. The insurance industry has had these practices for years.

You don't think they spend their money on misinformation? That's really naive.

He said "they scare people."

How is that not saying what they are doing is bad again?

can you link me to the article

I would not argue that both sides do not spin to an extent.

However, I haven't seen a misinformation campaign as detailed and extensive as the recent campaign against the health care proposal in years, maybe decades. Nothing even close.

Unlike the idiots on your side, I don't take it from the "special interest groups." My opinions are backed up by facts about what is in the house bill and what isn't. While you might disagree with the implementation of what's in there, at least we know what's there and what isn't.

Yes, one side is clearly trying to misinform and scare people and one side is just trying to let people know what's in the bill. The polls show that once people know what's actually there, most people support it.

i trust you will get out there and tell folks like DNC to stfu about his fear mongering then....and tell obama that his claims of fear mongering is not a bad thing....

Spurt, you're really fucking naïve if you think both sides are launching equal amounts of disinformation on this issue. They are clearly not. I know that's a hard pill to swallow considering who you habitually back, but it's clearly true.

It's also really fucking retarded to say that Obama having said that doing nothing is scary is anywhere close to what we've been hearing from the right in tearms of fear mongering. It should be obvious to anyone with a brain that there is no parity between convincing people that Obama is going to kill the elderly and send the feeble to death camps and saying that doing nothing is scary because it's going to get super expensive -- not to mention the obvious difference that one set of statements is completely false and one is a statement of fact.

yet you guys require special interest groups.....odd....given nobody from your side listens to them and everyone from your side is a fucking angel that has read the bill in its entirety and not relied on anyone elses' opinion....

those on the opposite are telling people what they think is in the bill, some of it is wrong, some of it is right....and not everything from your side is right...you guys lambasted the single payer "fear".....yet, we now have video of many prominent dems, obama included (though obama a few years ago), saying that they HOPE this bill someday allows single payer

can i have whatever you're smoking

it is absolutely the same.....he is saying that if HIS plan doesn't pass, eg., in his mind doing nothing, then we are in deep shit

he is outright scaring the crap out of people....if we don't fix it now.....etc...

that is not fear mongering.....LMAO....you're so partisan you can't evne see it
