Actually Darla used to say the exact same thing on here. She sometimes wished the country would go into such a sh*thole to show people how wrong they were for voting for Bush. Which is not to say you can't state what you just did but I think you respect Darla and probably wouldn't respond the same way to her as you just did to STY.

Massachusetts has a very strongly designed government. The reason California is in such a mess is because they have checks and balances every three feet, so it's impossible to get anything done.

Alaska is a special case because it has a natural resources bonanza. Conditions in Mississippi and Massachusettes can be directly compared, because there's not a massive amount of natural resources that we tax to oblivion in either state. The primary source of revenue in either state is going to be people and businesses (although Mississippi may have a more active casino industry, I haven't checked).

Obviously theyre increasing taxes. Revenue is plummeting due to the recession, and you guys have a balanced budget amendment. Mitt Romney would've been in the same exact boat.

The Democratic vote is extremely strong in the state, and there are no moderate or left-wing parties competing. There's no manipulation needed.

The Democratic vote is almost as strong in California, but they have initiatives and 2/3 requirements. It creates an ungovernably chaotic and weak system.

same federal/social security/medicare rates as everyone else, 5.25% state income tax, 6.25% state sales tax, and say about 5k for a 2000sfhome, most of the other taxes and fees for gas and such are about avg.
