Political Theater

I actually laughed out loud this morning when reading the news. Ted Cruz labeled the January 6 hearings "theater." That accusation from any modern Republican is hilarious. Republicans in Congress have pretty much abandoned the idea of governing for years, and spend the majority of their time on various Kabuki productions designed to create segments for Fox News. Consider the major hearings they held regarding a piece of I.T. trivia: years earlier, the Secretary of State had used a personal email server for work and, for some reason, this was treated as a matter requiring the rapt attention of Congress for months. Now compare to the January 6 insurrection attempt: it was a violent attack on our nation's capital, meant to overturn our democracy, which sent countless to the hospital and a few to the morgue. A hearing about THAT is what he denounces at theater?!

10,000 JPP Internet points says Ted Cruz was one of the Trumpian Traitors who asked for a pardon. :)

The Republicans are desperately trying to stop the bleeding from the cuts Trump made in the party. While I believe the Republicans will still take the House in November, the margin may be a smaller. The revelations of the 1/6 Committee will also probably cost the Republicans the Senate. 2024 is still an open question.

theater is absolutely correct. If any fairness was wanted - if you wanted all of America to care, you would of allowed people that represented the opposite opinion to have a say in these matters

this is a kangaroo proceeding, and America knows it. the only people impressed are the idiots that still think Biden is doing a good job.

I hope you're right, that the Dems hold the Senate. My take on things is unusual, though, in that I think that the strength of the economy actually plays against the Democrats. Lots of people are pushing up into higher tax brackets, with the dramatic nominal wage growth, and meanwhile with unemployment rates well below 4%, much of the public is in a mindset where they think they're never going to need public assistance. That defines a battlefield that's really disadvantageous to a party that fights against upper-class tax cuts and defends the welfare state.

These hearings will most certainly move the needle on public opinion. Since politics are local, I doubt it will alter elections of Reps much.

Also consider that between COVID anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers and Red States disenfranchising elderly voters/vote-by-mail will have a negative impact on Republicans too. Ooh, the irony. LOL

its a very slim chance that Dems hold it.....RealClear Politics currently lists 46 Dem likely or leaning, 48 Rep likely or leaning......of the six tossups 4 are Dem, 2 Rep.....

Going after mail-in votes could well be a strategic mistake for Republicans, since traditionally such votes favor them. That said, I assume they're making exceptions for military voters.

He’s trying to cover his ass. Pretty sure his name is going to come up in this hearing. He’s nervous.

I bet you are right about the pardon. It wouldn’t surprise me.

Could well be. From my personal perspective, that may actually be good, since I'm young, able-bodied, and wealthy, so the kinds of things Republicans support (tax breaks for the rich) could help me more in the short and medium terms than any hits to the kinds of things they oppose (e.g., government support for poorer people and the disabled.). The more Republican power, the worse for the human race in the longer term, for environmental reasons, but more immediately it just hurts the vulnerable, and that's not me.

It was made for TV political theater and if it was a Broadway show it would be shut down immediately. A complete flop.

And who better to be the team clown than Cancun Ted. The did the same thing after Uvalde.. trotted him out to be a huge tool at the NRA convention and on Faux Noose, talking about, "hardening the schools" <-- and can we please delete that term from our vernacular? It's fucking ridiculous, "hardening" like they're made of clay and we have to put them in a kiln or something.

It's all a way to deflect and distract. They sure fukin' don't want Americans watching the committee show America everything the Republicans did before and after 1/6.. so lets bring out Ted, see if he can troll some people away from what we'd prefer they not see - us being total RepublicanTaliaban diaper stains.

The Repubs are in quicksand right now - and Cancun Cruz will not be near enough to keep them from sinking.

Strength of the economy?

"The U.S. economy experienced negative growth in 1Q 2022 as GDP declined at an annualized rate of -1.4%, representing the first quarter of economic contraction since the COVID-19-induced collapse of 2Q 2020."

What opposition? That the attack never happened, it was a "legitimate political discourse"? If you really wanted "the other side" to have a voice, did you urge your (R) legislators to form a bipartisan investigating committee? Why didn't you?

this is a kangaroo proceeding, and America knows it. the only people impressed are the idiots that still think Biden is doing a good job.

You could not be more wrong, but then, that's something you are used to. BTW, nice try deflecting this to Biden. #TrollFailAgain

What was the bombshell in episode one? All I heard was the fizzzzz of a dud.
Yes, that’s what a Fox viewers is conditioned to say. There were a lot of new tidbits and video. They did a very good job of laying the ground work to show Trump knew he lost the election, but promoted the big lie to deceive people such as yourself and tried to stop the transfer of power.

Listen closely, you poor pathetic DUMB-ASS. Republicans had a chance to create a bipartisan committee but REFUSED to do so. Go cry to them about it.

Sadly like many on the left you fail to understand that using private computers to send/receive or store national classified information is a direct violation of the following. (Not all regs and laws listed.)

Tidbits as opposed to bombshells and videos of a riot. LOL

FOX should have run videos of the summer long looting, arson, vandalism and attacks on cops by the left simultaneously with the democrats docudrama.
